Away Chiang Kham Villa

The Villas are beautifully set in the rice fields of Chiang Kham with the back drop of the mountains of Thailand and Laos. The Villas themselves are breathe taking. Two story, open design with antique décor from India, Thailand, and Indonesia to name a few. One villa offers a swimming pool, while the other offers a full regulation tennis court (hard grass surface). The day I was there Rico (owner) and I took a bike ride. Through the rice fields and into Chiang Kham we went. The traffic is very minimal so I wasn't worried riding a bike like I would be in other cities in Thailand. Along our way we cut through small neighborhoods were u could see locals going about their business. People cooking food to sell or just sitting in front of their homes/store fronts. We passed by small community wats and old teak homes on stilts. Eventually, after passing several homes and rice fields, we came upon those mountains we saw from the Villa. There we entered a National Forrest where we road on a concrete path with a thick canopy over head. While in the forest Rico showed me a enormous tree that housed over 100 bee hives where the locals would climb to collect the rich honey. As we exited we passed some locals that were collecting bamboo for their personal use and we started our way back to the villas. Overall, the bike trip took about 3hrs. Upon return we were served a great lunch which included fresh salad, fruits such as mangosteens, papaya, and bananas. For dinner we had more fresh salad, tofu panang curry, and a thai pumpkin dish (no meat at all and it was delicious). Overall the trip was amazing. The scenery and peacefulness is exactly what is needed, especially after dealing with the pace and noise of a Bangkok or Chiang Mai.
