The Giant Chiang Mai Hotel

One of the Worldcup hidden secrets. The most beautifull view from the terrace at the treetop. It’s a Long ride up the mountain and we visit the place on a daytrip to Mae Kampong. We rent a private driver for the day from Chang Mai.
The trip was full of beautifull Nature you don’t often see in other tourist sights.
It was a very few tourist here and almost no western people.
Deffently the trop worth.

This is One place You Must See ! When I’m Chaing Mai. It’s in the mountains, just above the Lan na wild hotel. A Must ! On your list ! The View is Fantastic, and the cafe in the tree, has some Excellent choices. 

We had to drive about 40 minutes up the mountain to get there. It was worth it. It was like having a cup of coffee in heaven up in the cloud. It was kind of a cloudy day so I would imagine if the weather was nicer, the scenery would’ve been more spectacular.

Driving up steep and narrow winding up road worth the trip. We snap some lovely pics and enjoyed the lovely mountain view. We did not buy and beverages though, so it was really a brief stop for photos breathtaking scenery only.

Amezing place to set up the coffee shop with around the big big three and old, specialy on top of the hight mountain, recomment to get there easy in the dry season not raining season the very dangerous road, the coffee was very good, the staffs very friendly we were not order foods, can not comment. love to go back again.

The reviews of the Giant have been variable.  I'll do my best to give you my opinion from an American perspective.  We have 2 teenagers - one is a little more adventurous when it come to trying new foods than the other.  We stayed here one night.  We went during the rainy season just after the birthday celebration for the King of Thailand.  This means there was hardly anyone else there.  I think we were the only folks to stay the night and we did not see any other visitors until the following morning.

The drive out to the Giant from Chiangmai is rather long.  It takes 30-45 minutes to get from the city to the base of the mountain.  From there, you must take a smaller 4 wheel drive truck up to the mountain top.  The charge for the round trip up and back from the base of the mountain is about 500 baht.  It's another 30 minutes from the base of the mountain to the Giant.  The road up the mountain is curvy, full of pot holes, and treacherous drop offs.  I would not recommend taking your personal vehicle up there unless it's a jeep.  I would also not recommend going up or down the mountain poor visibility or bad weather. 

The views from the top at the Giant are really spectacular.  We arrived in the late afternoon and the temperatures were cool.  We watched the mist roll down off the mountain tops and coalesce into a rainforest downpour.  Thankfully we were undercover and dry but enjoyed the show that mother nature put on for us.

Dinner was served at 6pm.  Others have remarked about poor food quality and poor service, but that was not our experience.  As noted, I think we were the only guests there that night.  The table was ready for us at 6pm - 2 different soups, egg omelette, 2 kinds of stir fried vegetables, and fried pork.  This was a set menu of Thai food so we never saw the a la carte menu.  I've had a lot of good Thai food, and I can say that this spread was in the average to above average range.  We were also given some complimentary snacks (dried fruit) and some coffee infused bath soaps.

The rooms are not 5 star but they are adequate.  You come for the scenery, not the accommodations.  If you are from the US, then these rooms would be of the motel quality.  The rooms were damp due to all the recent rain and there were some minor plumbing issues (the bathroom sink leaked onto the floor).  However, the sheets and towels were clean and the bed fairly comfortable.  At night, the cacophony of rainforest sounds was amazing.  You really feel like you are in the jungle.  There is a chicken coop on premises and the rooster will crow quite early in the morning.

We chose the American breakfast in the morning.  This consisted of a fried egg, 2 slices of fried ham, two hot dogs, and a slice of toast with butter.  Nothing extravagant, but quite adequate.  The coffee was good and strong.

Our kids really enjoyed the novelty of sleeping in a treehouse and the feeling of truly being in the jungle.  If you have toddlers, you will need to watch them carefully as the Giant is probably not the best choice for the very young or the very old.  Overall, this was an enjoyable visit and I'm glad we came.

Go here for the beautiful location, the view down the valley and the impressive treehouse structure into which this coffee shop is built. We didn't have anything to eat or drink so can't comment on the quality. The road was quite rough and winding to get there and it was raining so kind of messy the day we went there.

Quite a ride to this place … several signs on the way referring to the difficult road. How cool would it have been if they also advised clients somewhere that the place is closer on Mondays … grrr!!! If you drive yourself be prepared for an interesting drive with very steep and tight roads.

Very nice view place and relax. However, it's very far from the city. Along the way up to the Giant, better take special songtaew to go up hill. It's quite dangerous for normal car to got there.

Not a lot choices of food but it's just nice for normal cafe. The view is awesome.

Really beautiful location. The tree is indeed, giant and we love how they managed to create a restaurant/coffee place without damaging the tree. However, considering the restaurant is on the tree and in such a natural place, it is very unfriendly to the environment. All the drink was served in plastic disposable cups, even when you sit in. Their glassware is just for decoration. 

The food menu is poor. Majority of the choices were western food - fancy beef stakes and spaghetti. Honestly if you want fancy stakes you'd have eaten in Chiang Mai town - who would go all the way here for that??? 

They could have nice, simple Thai's food. Like Pad Thai, fried rice..etc.  instead. The worst thing is they don't even give you napkin/tissue!
