The negative reviews of this property make me question the sanity of some travellers.  Service is great, from the first greeting at the door to the subsequent checkin and property tour by your butler, to every interaction.  Simply sitting outdoors by the pool very early one morning doing some work on my laptop, I was immediately approached with cold water, the offer of coffee/tea or full breakfast brought poolside, etc.  That attention is consistent.  Rooms are large, airy and well equipped.  My only complaint was that the shower did not have temperature controls.  Meals were all of the highest quality, with higher prices you expect from Aman.  The pool is large and welcoming.  Most of the public spaces is  not air conditioned, but the library offers a sanctuary of cool if you need it.  The location is excellent, and offers an easy walk to anywhere in the fort city.

What a property!!!! Within the walls of Galle and walking distance to all the sights of the fort, this property is first class. Tremendous service, impeccably clean and with a wonderful menu in the restaurant. Hotel also has a lovely pool.
This was one of the highlights of our stay in Sri Lanka, from an attention to detail by the staff to the lovely, historical structure that this hotel is. Thank you!!!

One of the most beautiful hotels we have stayed at. We still talk about our time at Amangalla. It's more like a museum, the mix of modern and historic architecture is outstanding. The tea time scones were delicious, don't miss these!
Our room was gorgeous, high ceilings, big bathtub, comfy pillows and so many thoughtful touches. This is certainly a hotel we look forward to coming back to.

We had a wonderful day strolling around at the ancient part of Galle, where we could learn a lot about the rich history of this amazing city.
But the cream on top of this cake was a visit at the traditional New Oriental Hotel, now famous under the brand Amangalle.
We had a wonderful lunch at the covered terrace of the hotel and our host Thanusha was very patient answering our questions about the rich history of this unique hotel.
After lunch she offerd us a quick tour to some places and we felt overwhelmed by how much history and tradition this house expresses.
The decisive factor here is that a hotel does not hide behind his past, but successfully transfers its values to the present time.
When a young service employee like Thanusha is passionate about her company, she brings the brand to life and makes it interesting for future target groups. The management is to be congratulated for giving its employees the space to act as ambassadors for their company's brand.
We were very pleased with our visit to Amangalle and were left with a lasting impression!

Loved this hotel! Such a special and historic place/building. All of the staff were outstanding, particularly Nalin. He took such good care of us during our stay, anticipating every need you could think of. The manager was excellent as well, and made it a point to connect with
us throughout our visit. I was celebrating my birthday, and a cake and champagne were waiting for us in our room upon arrival. Highly recommend, and hope to come back someday!

This is a wonderful hotel. Our room (26) was delightful, bed comfortable and the housekeeping was truly first class. Why can’t other hotels carry out their duties during the periods when we are at breakfast and dinner?!
The pool and spa are outstanding - again supplemented by attentive pool attendants and excellent therapists.
The Amangalla has a wonderful history and has been thoughtfully restored to reflect its own standard.
However their major asset is clearly the staff - it’s not often that the word ‘impeccable’ can be used in its true sense but we enjoyed impeccable service and friendliness from everyone at Amangalla.
From Galle we took the 3.5hr drive to the tea country; Nine Skies at Ella (very different but also very special). It would be very hard to surpass those 5days! Thank you.

Outstanding!!  Yes, it’s pricey, but they really take care of you.  Galle is a quaint town and there wasn’t a decent alternative, so we picked Aman. It definitely was worth the visit. Across the board, the service and care for us came through.  If you are in Galle, this is where you should stay!

The service is beyond exceptional in this hotel, we were personally greeted by the hotel manager, Kaya and introduced to Shashi who was our butler for our stay. Sashi was excellent. The rooms are luxurious and the location is about as good as you could get. The pool is delightful and the service around the pool was great. Food served on the beautiful terrace was delicious.

We came to Sri Lanka with our daughter and son in law, not knowing what to expect.  Turned out to be the trip of a lifetime.  Amangalla is stunning, historic and gorgeous.  The food was served with smiles and care.  The furnishings and cleanliness was perfection.  We enjoyed the spa, the yoga, all of the excursions, but our favorite thing of all is we fell in love with the people at Amangalla!  Our butler, Shashi was like a magician, seeming to appear whenever we needed anything.  He anticipated what would make us happy and what would help us feel at home.  He is adorable and a true gem.  But all the people there were wonderful, kind and happy.  We had a hard time saying goodbye to bye after five days.  If you are considering going to Sri Lanka and staying in at Amangalla, you will not regret it.

After a rather uncomfortable few nights in a chipping container in Sinharaja the Amangalla was a haven of peace and luxury. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel really special. We were given complimentary champagne, and some Spa time on the house. Our butler, Malin, was the most amazing chap. Whenever we arrived back int eh hotel, sweaty from sightseeing or shopping, he appeared, like the shopkeeper from Mr Ben, with cold towels and other suggestions about how we could enjoy our time in Galle even more. The food was fantastic, especially the tuna fish curry which had just the right amount of spice. We had, up to this point, struggled with the food in Sri Lanka a bit. Often the spice levels were toned right down for the Western palate which we did not like. We love spicy food and having been encouraged to spice it up a bit the chef responded appropriately. Not only that but on request for the recipe fort the tuna curry he appeared the following morning at breakfast with a ribbon-bound recipe folder for me. I was thrilled. The GM visited us several times to make sure our stay was perfect, which it really was. I have always held the Taj Falaknuma Palace hotel in Hyderabad as the best hotel in the world. The Amangalla is a very strong challenger to knock it off its pedestal. Can't wait to go back!
