Having spent 3 nights already at another beachside guest house, someone recommended Sunway to us and we went over to have a look. For the money, the rooms were spacious had good A/C and some bathrooms had hot water. Generally the place is a higher standard that similarly priced rooms we saw elsewhere in Arugam.
There were a few issues - powercuts, slow wifi on occasion and some of the doors were hard to lock. After two weeks travel in Sri Lanka these seem pretty common issues. Even the $90 hotel we stayed in had a bathroom door that wouldn't shut.
Having said that, the place felt very safe, is clean and spacious and Shamal's family that run it were lovely. We wanted to go on a safari so they arranged one and came with us. It worked out really good value and we had a briliant time, sleeping under the stars in Kumana national park by a river with the whole family round a big fire. 
They organised us a great surfing lesson with a proper instructor (we'd already had a hopeless one - there are many in Arugam!). They booked our onward travel and checked up on our progress finding somewhere to stay the other end.
They really were just very caring and helpful folk and I certainly stay there if I go back.

Great value in Arugam Bay

We stayed here for ten nights and it was great. Although there are lots of great accommodation places in Arugam Bay this was really nice quiet and clean and tidy.

Its down a laneway from the busy and noisey main road and the staff are really helpful with everything. With a quiet balcony to relax after surfs its great value for money and we would recommend it for sure.

Head to Tandori Hut across the lane for a slow but incredible meal..

Great Spot in Arugam Bay

The rooms were clean enough (not squeaky clean but pretty good), nice and large and had new mattresses on the bed. Overall comfortable. Good aircon and hot water. 
Downside was the staff didn't have any spare towels so we had to wait for the towels of the last guests to be laundered. Additionally I didn't see any disinfectant when they were cleaning our room. Plus the room boy (and maybe also the manager?) was very drunk on the first day of our stay. The manager was also laying in the foyer and when I asked for towels kept just laying there saying "later". And the lobby had a wheelie bin in it. Finally, our neighbours had a party on the balcony outside our room all night and it would have been good if the staff told them to be quiet and go to a bar or into their room. 
If the staff focused on offering professional customer service, made the lobby a nice area to chill out, and had spare towels available it would be an excellent place to stay. I'm sure they will after reading this review so give them a chance!

Overall good. Large clean rooms & new mattresses on beds. But drunk staff on first day of stay.
