A delightfully quirky dog friendly hotel, well positioned for an overnight Stop when travelling from the UK on the  Plymouth -Santander ferry and on route to the south.
Plenty of free parking.

The couple who run this fine establishment are friendly and helpful although if you speak no Spanish whatsoever it could be tricky, but not impossible. The experience will be worth it.
Nice double room with modern en-suite. Great shower - always one of my tests of a hotel.
We ate dinner in-house which was well cooked and delicious.
The definite cherry on the cake has to be the the amazing spread that was breakfast. Everything you could want, fruit, cold meats, cheese, bread and croissants and then came out the bacon and scrambled eggs. Not needed but delicious. A 5* breakfast.

The beds are hardish but in our experience Spanish beds are, weirdly.
The dogs are welcome in all areas of the hotel but they are also happy for you to leave them alone in the room which many hotels aren’t. The hotel does have at least 8 resident cats though which might be a challenge to some dogs but again the owners are very laid back about the whole animal interaction thing.

Charming hotel we will certainly be returning to on our next trip.

A gem of a hotel

  I don't know what we expected when we booked this restaurant with rooms except that the price was exceptionally modest. Pleasantly situated above Avila a short drive out of town there is plenty of parking next to the main building.  Rooms are on the bottom floor with the restaurant and large tapas bar on the top floor. 
We arrived with restaurant still busy with the late Spanish lunch crowd. There is no official reception you check in at the bar where we were met by Maggie the host.  No problem in checking in although Maggie does not speak English just Spanish and German. One of the helpful waiters was roped in to provide the English translation. No problems - all very friendly. 

The rooms were one Floor down - no lift if that is a problem for you.  They were what I would call rural style but with modern bathroom attached (shower no bath) Perfectly clean. We have double bed which could have been more comfortable but for the price ok.
The bar  a large room with classic Spanish style decoration provided a large selection of tapas and although we had booked the restaurant would have been great to eat and drink and locals obviously thought so too.

The restaurant is modern and obviously popular (the reason we planned to stay there). The evening we stayed we were the only guests hence reference to tapas earlier.  However we were made welcome and served by a charming waitress. full marks to her and her pretty good attempts at English.  Food was good if not inspiring but we did play safe on the menu.

Breakfast was coffee and toast. We were asked if we wanted something more but we were  happy  to depart.  Overall we had a good experience reflected in the price.

Definitely an experience

Beautifully situated in the grounds of Sonsoles sanctuary this hotel was just what we like. Welcoming staff showed us to a good sized room with all facilities. There was no aircon but even though the daytime temperature hit 35 the room was pleasantly cool. There is an attractive bar well patronised by visitors to the sanctuary. We were the only diners in the restaurant but the 16€ menu was excellent. One thing to remember, a lot of salt used in cooking, take a bottle of water to your room, we needed it! This place is not luxurious, it is just a decent quality attractive place to stay. Oh and breakfast was good too.

Peaceful hotel near Avila

We stayed for 2 nights at the end of February to visit Avila. The hotel was easy to find located on the old road to Tolado. The reception was upstairs (bedrooms downstairs) and we received a warm welcome from Maggie and Klaus. Bedrooms are individual and tastefully decorated and coordinated. Think logis (as in France) not chain hotel. Wifi was good and free. We were the only people staying which was a great shame. Breakfasts were really good with plenty of choice and our evening table d'hotel menu was country cooking at its best. The Avila speciality of chuleton beef was delicious and the mousse cheesecake and apple strudel were to die for. 
Car parking was secure - the gate was locked at night. Our dog enjoyed the quiet rural walks outside the grounds. 
We travelled from the med and turned off the A4 towards Tolado then on through beautiful countryside to Avila. It probably added about half an hour to our journey time to San Sebastián and avoided Madrid. Well worth the deviation and I would recommend it to any traveller heading north.
My only criticism and this was very minor was that there was not a working surface which may have attracted business users (somewhere to easily plug in computer and use it). Great stay - thank you.

An excellent stopover going north to south or as a base for visiting Avila and surrounds

On the edge of wild granite mountains and the city of Avila.
After a month on the Mediterranean we drove north and experienced a drop in temperature of 20 degrees. 
No matter, the scenery was amazing. 
The hotel is part of a hermitage, a site of pilgrimage and very tranquil. Having said that, we watched Madrid loose an important football match to Barcelona, so the whole bar was up in arms. 
Rooms are more than adequate; the  restaurant is great .
 I started with green beans and iberica ham, then the world famous Avila steak. My wife had prawns followed by pork in a blue cheese sauce. 
A local co-op wine was interesting but not spectacular. 
I like this place a great deal : thanks to Carlos for the service. 

Lovely!

After a full day visiting Avila, we crashed there for the night and it was perfect. Nice isolated place (easy accesible by car), really kind owners and a very good restaurant (for both dinner and beeakfast). We were almost alone in the posada, so we got a really good sleep.
