This hostel is positioned right in the center of Stellenbosch, minutes from the tourist information, restaurants and shops, right in the middle of the historic district. The proprietor was very helpful and the hostel felt very secure.

Nice central location

We had a great stay, and the best nights rest I have ever had in a Backpackers. They are situated in a quiet street and nothing disturbs your peace and quiet. Lourens was very friendly and accomodating to all our requests. The only thing lacking is a bit of a vibe, but I understand from Lourens that they are working on that 😀 Can definately reccomend them!!!

Best Sleep Ever

In all I was not impressed with my stay. I understand that it's affordable accommodation, however the room that I had stayed in was over crowed. There were 7 of us in a small room with barely any space to walk let alone space for our baggage. The bathroom, I have no issue with it being communal, but the ladies shower was missing a shower door. More specifically I am upset about the fact that they did not cater for my dietary requirements even after they were reminded repeatedly over the two night stay.

Disappointing Stay

Almost everything on their website is a joke. 
Recreational Lounge
Our cozy recreational lounge has a pool table, comfy couches and DSTV. There are vending machines for your convenienceCourtyard
Our courtyard is used for summer night braais and summer morning breakfasts. We have recently built an undercover dining area in the courtyard with a buffet area to ensure that we have enough seating for our larger groups during the winter period.  We now seat 50 guests outside and 24 guests in our inside dining lounge. and continental breakfasts are served until 11am. 
THIS FACILITIES DOES NOT EXIST.
1. There is no TV as advertised.
2. Cremora, milk and teaspoons are not available or finished at times.
3. The supervisor sleeps on the couch at 8 in the evening if you want to enquire something.
4. We tried to enter at 10 o'clock in the morning after we were out for coffee and nobody answered the bell, or heard our hooting. We had to turn back without the things we wanted.
5.The bathrooms are filthy. The only new one's bulb fused.
6. The doors of the toilet and showers cannot lock.
7. Cockroaches all over the place.
The webpage ought to be removed from Trip Advisor as well as the advertisement. These premises ought to be removed from any acommodation webpage in S.A.

Laid back and dirty

We were overwhelming disappointed with our stay and with the facilities at the lodge. Although budget accommodation, there are some things which we expect from all safe places. A few examples below of things to be mindful of when considering your accommodation options. 

There are no locks on the doors for upstairs female bathrooms (toilet cubicles or main door which doesn't actually close properly). 

The shower doesn't have a full door (there is one of two glass panels) which means there is absolutely nothing (no see-through glass, no shower curtain) between you and the toilet/sink area people walk into - therefore nothing to stop someone from walking in from the corridor to see you showering. It also causes water to go everywhere. Hopefully you have a buddy who will stand watch for a few minutes to make you feel safe enough to have a quick shower. 

Whilst other rooms did, our room did not have a fan (it was very hot) or a lock on the door. In a lodge full of people including a big sports team, we would have felt comfortable if we had been able to lock our room when sleeping. I am sure the rooms with these would have had a more enjoyable stay than we did- perhaps something to ask about when/if booking. 

There is also an odd lack of bins, including in the bathroom where other guests had left the cubicles and basins in a rather filthy state. Whilst not so much the fault of the lodge, bins would surely help.  

Most disappointingly, our feedback was poorly received.
