Best experience in a backpacker. Lovely, plain but very clean and comfortable room and balcony in a characterful, old building, nicely renovated, right on the beach front. Staff are great, genuinely friendly, and will make you feel at home. Spacious, shared kitchen and amenities are relaxed but well maintained and managed. Downstairs jazz club will keep you up and smiling too with live performances, DJs and playlists through the week. Surfer ethos and good vibes prevail. On leaving, a cleaning lady came to me with a ZAR5 coin, to say that I must have accidentally dropped it on the floor of my room. The whole experience was a world away from many other places. Highly recommended.

I host my 51st BIRTHDAY DRUMMING COMEDY SHOW at AFRICAN SOUL SURFER at SURFERS CORNER, in Muizenberg on Sunday, 29th November 2020
IT WAS COSY

So cosy that my grandson decided to also perform a few of his FUN jokes and a friend of mine ALSO did.

The comedians hosting and headlining were top shelf PRO ACTS and a SEASON friend of mine was just the right TOUCH.

A disappointment is that I had planned to host a pay event at a different restaurant which never happened! However, I forgive its management since I realised the budget necessary to host such an event.

NO MATTER...IT WAS WORTH IT, INDEED.

Stanton the Muizenberg drummer was BEST.

Thank you, Chad Cupido and Thomelo for having me use YOUR FAB VENUE, last minute...I shall be back.

My 51st DRUMMING COMEDY BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

What an unexpected gem of a place. I can imagine that as a backpacker or with a group of mates that this is the kind of place that you remember for years to come. The bar/lounge area was great. A cold beer after a long trip though was just the ticket. Everyone was friendly, and the chilled atmosphere made me feel as if I was in someone's living room rather than a hostel.
I was told that the room that I got had the best view, and they weren't lying! The room was clean and comfortable, and after a long drive I had no trouble falling asleep between the crisp sheets.
I wish I didn't have to leave so early, I was hoping to get in a surf and some Yoga. I guess that for when I go back!

Gotta Lotta Soul.

I had a lovely stay at African Soul Surfer! The food and drinks in the café are delicious and you can sit on the balcony overlooking the beach. This was especially nice for me as a solo traveller because there was always someone out there to have a chat with - and if not, it was super relaxing to just sit out there and watch the surfers. 
The staff were all lovely and I managed to improve my surfing a lot. 

Two things that could be improved:
The yoga schedule wasn’t quite clear which meant I missed two classes that took place earlier than expected. 
The dorms are a bit small which means it feels a bit cramped, especially if you’re traveling with way too much luggage like I was. 

Stayed in a private room for two nights which was lovely! 


Perfect for surfing and socializing

Wonderful, warm, welcoming staff, great surf lessons & yoga sessions in various styles. 
I stayed in a private room with amazing ocean view, waking up here was a dream! Clean & comfy rooms, and overall good energy & vibes.
Oh, and the breakfast & coffee are good here!:)

It was an amazing time and the place is well kept and the people are very friendly and everyone was living like a familia . The view was beautiful . I would deffinatly go back again and recommend it to a friend and family member .

Best holiday destination close to home

Best place to stay for surfers. Very close to all restaurants, beach view is best, best prices, security (fingerprint access).
Cons. Not sure if all rooms will have sea side view, toilets are outside the room(not private)

The location of this place is unbeatable, in front of the beach with an awesome vibe. Good coffee and breakfast too. Staff went out of their way to meet my needs. I would definitely recommend this place and stay here again.

It was a short trip but also nice. Thanks for everything I had a room with a nice view. But renting surf equipment is a bit too expensive .But a very nice restaurant with a nice view. 
Friendly staff .
