We really enjoyed our stay with Mieke and Adgaly from Guesthouse Diabatalo in the fishing village of Abéné.  A beautiful room with a large veranda overlooking the garden.  The beach is a five-minute walk away.  The Guesthouse is located in a village with all kinds of local restaurants and shops.  We met many friendly people in Abéné.  Mieke and Adgaly are very helpful and have all kinds of tips for fun activities.  Highly recommended is a boat trip and fishing in the Mangroove off the coast of Sénégal, a Batik workshop in Abéné, a taxi moped to all kinds of surrounding villages such as Kafountine and Niafarang, etc. 'And in the evening you can eat in all kinds of restaurants with  including delicious fresh fish with a glass of wine, beer, etc. Then of course dancing until late at night.  And every morning Mieke provides a delicious breakfast.  In short, we spent two wonderful weeks in this typical African fishing village.  Thank you Mieke and Adgaly!  🙏🏽

Recently returned home after my fifth stay at Guesthouse Diabatalo - which was as peaceful, welcoming, friendly and comfortable as ever, and with extra-special care and concern for me when I was unwell.  Highly recommended.

Fantastic hospitality in cool, comfortable rooms in a beautiful garden five minutes from the beach and the shops and bars. Mieke and Dgaly made us feel so welcome and we had a tasty NYE meal of Mariama’s fish benechin and palm wine before the celebrations on the beach. The next morning we had a wholesome, reviving breakfast including Dgaly’s freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, which was just what I needed. A perfect stay.

Mieke and Adjaly welcomed us warmly, even though we mentioned our arrival only two days before, they prepaired everything with care and love. 
Mieke answered all our questions, and when we were out of questions she made us warm tea or gave us special tips about the surroundings and culture. 
We all higly recommend this special place and will never forget the experiencewe had in Abene.

Feels like coming home

We have just spent two very enjoyable weeks at Guesthouse Diabatalo.  Mieke and Adgaly, the owners, are wonderfully kind people and really went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and were always on hand to offer advice and support.  They even went to the trouble of organising a Senegalese themed, surprise party to celebrate my wife's birthday (including band) at a very reasonable cost!  The guesthouse is a 5 minute walk to the nearest restaurant and also, to the beautiful beach.  We chose to stay in the 'villa' which provided plenty of space, relaxing veranda and everything you would need for an enjoyable visit.   I would also recommend that you sample the delights of dinner at the guesthouse. Mieke and her cook have exceptional culinary skills and will be delighted to prepare some Senegalese cuisine.  You will not be disappointed should you decide to make a reservation at the Diabatalo.  Thank you so much MIeke and Adgaly - your warm hospitality made our vacation feel like a stay with friends! Wonderful hosts, who we now call friends!

Mika and Agely are the best and friendliest hosts you can wish to find. In the small coast village Abene they created with love and care their small Guesthouse in the middle of trees, flowers and other plants. Nature is important and being cared of, which makes it a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. You can feel that this couple loves this place! They are very open, make you feel like home and have an ear for what ever we asked them. The breakfast can be enjoyed in the big and beautyful garden, watching the birds in the trees. This place is definitely the first choice in the area! We had a wonderful time there thanks to Mika and Agely!

A wonderful couple in a small dschungle paradise!

We stayed in this wonderful guesthouse in May 2018 on our senegal trip. A friend brought us there and we weren‘t dissapointed. The garden is like an oasis, the appartment we booked was cozy, the surroundig is great, the beach is close and the food is delicious. But the very best about guesthouse diabatalo are the hosts. They are very welcoming and nice people. They make you feel at home immediately. They get good help with that from their super cute dogs and cats. So we enjoyed our stay very much and plan to return.

Like a second home

I stayed for 2 weeks around new years. The owners were always helpful and friendly. Breakfast - fresh bread, jams, juice, coffe, tea, omelets. Dinners - typical Senegalese and always delicious. Tap water there safe to drink so you save on plastic bottles. Room was clean, cool and quiet. The grounds were lovely and peaceful - plenty of hammocks. Best parts was jam sessions on drums with Adjele!! Highly recommended.

Relaxed, friendly place

We went to Abene in June 22 for a short break and we chose to stay at the guesthouse Diabatalo we have known for a few years.
The guesthouse is located in a large, quiet and fragrant garden, near the sea, from where you can easily walk to restaurants, pubs and shops of the village.

We arrived there with a collective taxi from Ziguinchor which left us on the road to Kafountine, then, with a motorbike, we reached the guesthouse.
But if you call the owner, he'll arrange to pick you up ;-)

The bungalows are comfortable and simply furnished with a style halfway between Africa and Europe. Each room has a veranda with armchairs and a small table, where it is pleasant to relax.
The breakfast, served on the veranda, is good, healthy and plentiful, in particular the local honey and fresh seasonal fruit.

The added value of the guesthouse are... the owners! Friendly, cheerful, always ready to satisfy the needs and requirements of the guests: if you need, ask Mieke and Adgali... what else?

We highly recommend the Diabatalo guesthouse, we will definitely be back, inchahalla!

A friendly place

My last time staying here was two years ago almost to the day. Damn the virus! Mieke and Adgaly were as welcoming and kind as ever, they have become good friends over the last 5 years. I will always stay with them unless they are full! Their lodge is spacious and shady, and an easy 5 minute walk to the beach. And Mieke’s breakfast is the best!
