Almost impossible to find the first time and not having the means to call the hostel, we found it very difficult. Accessible by two unmarked, locked gates for which no one answered the buzzer - we had to wait to be let in by a passerby which, in 30 degrees with a large backpack, was a poor start.

Hostel was quite small, had little atmosphere and facilities weren't excellent (one shower and bathroom) but they did have laundry and a serviceable kitchen. Decent location very close to the metro and a 30 min walk from Red Square. Lady on duty had little English but was helpful and stored our bags until night-time when our train departed which was very convenient.

Inexpensive and decent location

The rooms are very clean and comfortable, the staff is really helpful and the location couldn't be better, very close to the metro station. The best option of hostel for a very reasonable price, you won't regret it!

Lovely, inexpensive and well located

Finding a decent place, at a reasonable price and at a decent location can be quite hard in Moscow. After spending hours researching on the internet, I eventually came back to this place as I realised how close it was to the Kazan and Leningrad train stations, making it very convenient for my travel schedule. It was very reasonable priced for a spacious private room. 

After booking online I quickly received email correspondence from the hostel with directions to the hostel. As long as you follow the directions the place is easy to find, located only 200m from metro station and less than 1k from the Kazan and Leningrad train stations.

Despite the good reviews of this place, I still didn't know what to expect. However I was welcomed by a very friendly staff member and all staff I met during my stay was friendly and helpful. It's a quite small hostel, 2 dorms and 1 private room, but I am still surprised how many facilities they have been able to fit in. It's basically a ground floor apartment turned into a hostel. A nice lounge, laptop desk in hallway, washing machine. Whereas toilet, bathroom and kitchen facilities were nice and clean and had all you needed, I found the kitchen quite on the small side. Also there was only one bathroom and one toilet. Was never really a problem during my stay but if hostel is busy I can imagine it might start to feeling a little cramped.

Tip: When travelling in Russia you will be offered 'Registration' in every accommodation you stay in. Please note that the accommodation will charge you a fee for this. Unless you stay in an individual city or town for 7 BUSINESS DAYS or more, there is absolutely no requirement for doing any registration. This hostel however will tell you something else, namely that you have to do it everywhere you stay. This is however not true. Having travelled all the way across Russia, everywhere else I stayed have confirmed that you only have an obligation to do registration if staying in the same town/city for more than 7 business days, i.e. weekends not counting as days. The hostel owner of Garden Hostel made us pay 1,500 Rubles for basically nothing claiming we had to do it despite I was questioning the 7 days rule! In the unlikely event anyone at the border asks for evidence of your different stays, train tickets etc. is fine to confirm that you never stayed long in each place. Again, very little chance you will ever be asked to produce anything at the border when leaving the country.

OK for a couple of nights in Moscow but don't pay money for unnecessary registration!

Stayed here in January 2015 for a couple of nights while sightseeing in Moscow. Stayed as a couple in private room that was big and spacious. Hostel while compact has all that you need - kitchen, bathroom, toilet, washing machine, towel and shower gel also provided. While only one toilet and shower room it was never a problem during our stay. The whole hostel is spotless clean. Nice supermarket located a few mins walk down the road and it is also very close to the metro station. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to others for a short stay in Moscow. 

Nice Hostel, Good Value For Money

It spend us a little time to find it. It's better to call the stuff to show you the way. The hostel itsself is a very lovely place. It's really like a garden. Very comfortable. There is a place where you can watch TV read magazine. The bathroom is clean .
