Absolutley amazing environment! The owners were incredibly accommodating, kind and helpful! Facilities were superb (showers and bathrooms, full kitchen, living area and outdoor space) very relaxed nature and a perfect location for seeing the city

If visiting go here!

Freeborn hostel is a must when you visit Timișoara. The hostel is located right next to the old town and Raul and his wife are so friendly and such hospitable hosts. With a fully equipped kitchen, and a great outside hanging space, you can spend the day exploring Timișoara or chilling at the hostel. Raul often brings the guests to bars or local events and offers tasters of his dad's delicious home-made Palinka! I'm hoping to make my way back here in the next few years when I get the chance!

The place to stay in Timișoara!

Stayed in this hostel for 1 month with no complaints.  The staff was always very helpful and super friendly. During my stay, both the owner Raul, as well as his assistant Hector, were kind enough to let me know of any places of interest and events that were happening in the area. What I also really appreciate is the fact that they were very understanding of the fact that the plane that I was arriving at Timisoara with was landing in the very early morning hours and Hector was there to check me in at 2 a.m. Also, if you manage to beat Raul in either chess, ping pong or Mario Kart, you'll get a free beer (which I didn't manage to do, unfortunately).

Overall, a great experience and great staff.  Will be visiting again in the future and hopefully win a game this time.  Best regards from Malta.

Awesome 1-month long stay in this hostel

I've been following the Balkan Backpacker Network (the first hostels existent in the area) for this extended trip and it hadn't failed me yet. Freeborn has a good lively atmosphere and nice common spaces (a small kitchen, a small living room with wii!, and a large outdoor garden space). I really appreciated Raul and Hector's friendliness, as well as Anna's patience.

With that said, I would give it a 5 but

1) The water pressure was really subpar, even when no one else was using the showers.
2) Raul was there for 2 PM until about 7 PM when I was there, but in the mornings it was a bit of a dead atmosphere.
3) The beds were a bit too soft/creaky, but that's what you get with hostels. 

Good, But Awful Water Pressure 

Stayed there in late May, and found the hostel to be very cozy and friendly.

The owner, Raul, is the coolest guy. He pretends to be good at chess, and if you beat him, you get free beer! Very funny guy who also helped me out a lot when I received a random mail from the police in Romania, in Romanian. 
He went to the police station for me and found out it was just a warning and thankfully nothing to worry about. (I drove a little too fast on the highway)

Anyway, would definitely recommend to everyone! close to the center and detailed instructions on what to do in Timisoara. Plus, he let me check out whenever I wanted, so that was pretty awesome :)

Lovely hostel with the best owner!

Great hostel and good location, the staff is really nice and accommodating, and the double room was very clean. Also there is several bathrooms, and this is a good point ! We really enjoyed our stay :) 

Great

The location of the hostel is just off the main square but in a quiet area. The bed was comfy and the staff were friendly.

We arrived early and there were people sleeping in the communal area and there was no where to store our luggage until check in. 

The room was fine and had a fan. The standard of cleanliness of the communal areas was poor as there was a lot of dust. The shower had hot water but the bathroom floor/shower were not the cleanest. 

Cheap accommodation 

Very cozy and friendly hostel. It’s very close to the old town and all the facilities are great! Raul, the owner, is so nice and helpful and makes your experience much better. It’s very secure, clean and cozy. You won’t regret. Surely I would stay there again. Thank you Raul!!!
