We stayed here after friends from Perth recommended it from their recent trip to Portugal.
It was a little out of the way of our Douro Valley trip but we enjoyed spending a night at this lovely Quinta. 
We arrived later than expected but the gorgeous young lady who looks after the Quinta was smiling and made us the best G&T with fresh juniper berries and orange for us to enjoy overlooking the vines. The weather was still delightfully warm so we could sit outside for drinks and also the delicious dinner of the local sausage with potato with garlic butter and a salad of vine ripened tomato, onion and capsicum. Simple but so lovely. Washed down with a bottle of their red wine (8 euros a bottle so don’t expect Grange!) the evening was really lovely.
The bedroom (and all the Quinta) feels new, the room was lovely with a seperate sitting area where they had made a bed for our daughter. Shutters on the windows kept it dark in the morning. The bed was very comfy so we had a great sleep (maybe the extra port helped!) before a continental breakfast. We took our breakfast from the buffet to the outdoor verandah again to enjoy the warm morning and the views.
Would recommend staying here, they have a pool which we didn’t use and bikes.
An absolute bargain at around $100 inc dinner/drinks! 


A perfect night in the country

Real getaway! We loved the views of the vineyards and nature around, great hospitality of the personnel, food they made for us (it was a great opportunity to taste local cuisine) and possibility to relax and enjoy the atmosphere of the quinta located at the end of the small village. It was really like holidays at grandma`s. Our room was amazing. Spacious, very nicely equipped with big windows and great views. Smaller but enjoyable swimming pool was more than nice bonus.

I just missed hairdryer in the room, but it was not so essential. Breakfast was fine and tasty but the selection of food could be a little bit wider - eggs could be part of it for example.

Feels like holidays at grandma`s

Quinta do Palame is located in the hamlet of Freixiel, the birth place of Portuguese contemporary painter Graca de Morais, about 6 Km away from Vila Flor.  An old farmhouse was recently upgraded to provide modern comfort while keeping its original profile. When we stayed there were six rooms, the seventh one getting ready to start operation soon.  There is a salt water swimming pool, and the option to have a simple dinner served on the premises.  Hint: one option only, so make sure you book it early, for your choice is what the other guests also eat!  Twenty minute drive to Unesco site Foz Coa.  PS:  breath taking sun raise and sun set

an ocean of tranquility

It is very clear that this is a very recent property and very new to the business but even thou there is some basics that they should have master by now... 
Positive : 
- lovely and relaxing scenario
- lovely decor
-staff talks in a friendly manner, although one of them is very condescending!
-isolated
-off road parking
-there is " house products" for sale
- The dog is lovely 
- access to the top balcony

Negative: 
- if you put dirty towels on the floor( even with stains) rather that substitute they will get picked up and put back in the rack
-if you want your drinking glasses washed you will have to do it yourself or they will be dirty during your entire stay
- there is curfew, if you arrive sometimes even 15-30min before the door is already closed
- you ask for front door key, gets denied
- sent e-mail day before saying what time would arrive, got reply saying " not a problem" yet door was closed lights were off and had to wonder around for 20min searching for signal to call inside 
- having no key, at times if returning to hotel mid afternoon doors will be closed and you need to call, all in all a very expensive phone bill
- bread and olives as a starter in any restaurant you pay from 0€ to 1,50€, in the hotel you pay 4,50€
-pool was dirty, fair enough is low season but would expect it to be clean at least once during the week since it was Hot weather
- for breakfast there is a variety of 3 kinds of bread, ham that tastes like been out of the packet for 4days, cheese and house jam, if you fancy other than bread there is only yogurt. Filter coffee kept in a thermos so you may find it cold
- pillows provided were nothing but air, after sleeping with a bent neck for 3 days decided to buy our own only to find that since we got pillows the property ones were removed
- careful! Do not used the toilet too much, if you run out of toilet paper( cheap single ply one) it only gets replaced depending on which employee " cleans" your room



Looks lovely... until you spend some time there

Amazing house with an incredible view over the vineyards! I recommend staying here! Also the selfcooked food is great! The pool, the house and the rooms are all equally clean and perfect. It's very easy to find and the staff is wonderful.
