The long search and inquiries, the trek up through the narrow, rough, muddy and slippery road, the confusing signage, the tempting scent of ripe Durian & Marang, the captivating scenery of dangling Rambutan and Lanznes fruits along the way, the cold refreshing air, the tranquility, the sounds of crickets, the relaxing Nipa hut, Guest house and the wooden furnitures, the breathtaking views of the mountains and wild forest, the home cooked adobo & tinola shared with my wacky friends, the refreshing infinity pool. It's my kind of Sunday with Melba's Farm. Thumbs up Melba's Farm and staff. You made my weekend unforgettable. :)

Relaxing Weekend

It's a quiet getaway within the city limits. Only around 30 minutes away from Bacolod proper. It provides a private space with a great view.

It has a very rustic feel and an added detail is, all the wood used to build the farm was sourced from the farm land itself. It's a cool place as it's on a higher elevation.

The rooms have no air conditioner, only fans, but it is sufficient enough even for those who require air conditioning. Just open the glass doors and keep the screen door closed. The place is secluded enough not to be paranoid about security.

The pool is nice and the depth goes from 3-6 feet.

For food, you can opt to bring your own. The place has a kitchen that can be used or you can opt to have the staff cook you some local dishes for lunch and dinners. Breakfasts are inclusive with the room booking.

You can reach the farm two ways. Thru the Cabatangan area or thru the Alangilan area. We chose the Alangilan area. The access road is just opposite of the entrance of the Bantug Lake Ranch. It's a dirt road all the way, better taken with a motorcycle or with a good 4x4 car. It is uneven, narrow, rocky rough dirt road; up hill so your driver should at least be familiar with driving on rough terrain or you might get stuck especially if it rained and the path is muddy. It's around 2km in length from Bantug.

We didn't try it but were told by Ed the supervisor that they recommend going to Melba's thru the Cabatangan area as you will start on higher elevation going on the rough road to the farm area. Takes less effort. Then leaving the farm, the road to Alangilan is recommended. Basically going downhill all the way from entering to leaving the farm.

PS. Ed mentioned there are fireflies aplenty during summer time there. I cannot prove that though.

Tranquil getaway within reach

I stumbled on Melba's Farm while I was scouring the net for accommodation in Talisay. I've read two or three blog posts recounting their experience, and they all gave positive reviews about the place.

Getting there was a challenge. I hired a car at P1500, from Bacolod to Campuestohan and then the farm. Supposedly, we should have a pick-up (it's a rough road to the farm), but when the driver showed up at SM Bacolod, he's got an Inova. I didn't mind, trusting he knows the terrain. After we spent an hour at Campuestohan, the driver declared he would transfer us to a habal-habal (motorcycle) because the road to Melba's is terrible. We felt tricked. We had no choice but to hop on the motorcycle, who also got lost getting to the farm.

Anyway, after all the adventure, it was happy time at the farm. I was able to catch a good sunset, and then dipped in the pool after feasting on chicken tinola for dinner.

I booked the Mahogany room. It was unexpectedly spacious! The night was cold, perfect, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I was lulled to sleep by the crickets, the night birds, the gecko, and the rain falling on the grass roof. 

After a good sleep, I woke up with the swirling of the ceiling fan (no aircon needed). I peeked into the white curtains and got a good view of the trees. When I stepped out, Rambo (the resident dog) at Melba's greeted me for playtime. I had longsilog and coffee for breakfast.

Overall, it was a good stay. Totally relaxing. Close to nature. Something I'd always daydream about when I wish to slow down for some me-time.

Totally relaxing spot in the middle of the forest

The secluded forest location of Melba's Farm made my fantasy of an in-the-middle-of-the-woods accommodation to come true. My booked Mahogany Room, a rustic villa with a spacious bathroom also has a fantastic veranda with a spectacular view of the massive trees outside. I love the wood-finish flooring of the room indoors as much as the countryside charm of the garden next to the swimming pool. My 3-day stay was definitely one that's about a pleasant reset. I did not mind that there was no WiFi Internet access. I loved the idea of being semi-unplugged there with just the flat screen TV to amuse me before bedtime. Staying there allowed me to have an easy hike of the village along the dirt road. Seeing the scenery up there can't be compared to touring the nearby city of Bacolod.
