We visited as a small group of 16 friends to celebrate a birthday. The whole experience was fabulous. The Riad is beautifully furnished with unique pieces to make it a haven inside the Medina. The staff couldn’t be friendlier or more attentive and everything we needed was catered for. Friends made use of the spa treatments with high praise and we all enjoyed the fantastic cocktails in Charlie’s bar! 
During our second nights stay we had a private function with a sit down gourmet meal, Moroccan Wines and amazing entertainment from Frankie the resident pianist and singer who definitely brought the fun and got the party started. 
We stayed in the Panther Suite which was huge and the bed was extremely comfortable. The balcony looked over the summer courtyard and pool which was an Oasis to relax in after a day sightseeing. Would highly recommend!

Fabulous Riad

There is a real issue with this Riad  and it is the owner Steve. He sits in the bar getting progressively drunk ( a nightly occurrence according to staff ) playing his favourite music at high level on an expansive B&O stereo system with no regard for either his guests  or his staff. I urge you to use the search bar on trip advisor  and type ‘music’  to see that this is a theme that repeats itself but according to the staff it has got markedly worse over the last month. The music is loud through til whenever he basically collapses and decides to go to bed. He has favourite tunes which he will play on repeat ( one Adele song repeated 9 times in a row)  
The Riad is designed so that many rooms are surrounding the central court with the bar central to this therefore there is no escape from  the sheer volume. On complaining , and I wasn’t alone (see previous review), his response is to look you straight in the eye and increase the volume !! One other thing to note,  is that every room has a large dish shaped B&O speaker,  which he has the ability to Bluetooth the music directly into and does so to further goad his residents,  so ensure you unplug it ( you will probably find it already  is as we did when we got to our room ) .
The manager Madolaine ,a young French lady, did apologise on the second night and moved us to a quieter part of the Riad at 1am with the music still on.  She then proceeded to move us every night after that !!  After our second forced move and a third demanded we refused to move and were told that if we refused she would call the police and added the phrase the Moroccan police are very different ( we took this as a specific threat). I  have a video recording of the threat to call police.
There are many good points to this Riad , the staff are excellent and will go the extra mile for you but they are powerless to influence the owner and are so much happier when he is not there ( he left on the 3rd day of our stay) 
Please read this review in conjunction with the recent review from Hannah,  as we stayed  at the same time, and then you will have the whole picture to make an informed decision on wether to book this Riad or not. If your lucky enough to stay when he is not in residence then your stay will be everything you hoped for from this Riad.

You need to be aware before you book

Calm and peaceful until it’s absolutely unreservedly not. 

Please be aware that this review is not a comment on any of the wait staff or helpers. This hellacious stay was the sole responsibility of the owner- a man whose own staff referred to as a “drunkard” and a “bad man”. 

We settle into our room and out of nowhere the Christian hymn “Amazing Grace” starts BLARING. It’s daytime at this point so we essentially ignore it as a quirk. The music eventually turns down. Later, an explicit version of 50cents “PIMP” starts blaring. Again, we assume it’s a strange misunderstanding of American music. 

We head down to the bar to get a drink before dinner and meet the very clearly already inebriated man that claims he is the owner. He starts talking at us telling us all about how much money he has, how much money he spent on the riad, how he hates “woke people” but he’s “fine with gay men but they’re so much more flamboyant than the lesbians”. He insists we tell him our favorite music but then proceeds to forget the questions he has asked already 3-4 times. As we’re trying to extricate ourselves he pulls me, a young female, into him by my hip/waist and shoulder to try to hug/talk to me inches away from my head. 

We should have known then, but instead write him off as a drunk weird old man who will surely go to bed soon. 

Nope. 

For the next 3.5 hours, he essentially tortures the guests of his riad and restaurant by blaring the music then having it turned down by his staff every 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Up and down all night. Several male guests have complained by this point as I’m assuming all the females feel unsafe. The staff apologized profusely and tells us they can’t unplug the wifi, take the iPad controls away, or anything else because “his is the owner”. One guest says he will call the police but the French manager says this has been done before lots of times but he just pays off the police and gets away with it all because “he owns the riad”. The staff seems afraid of both him and losing their jobs which I feel for them. 
The owner continues to barricade himself in the bar, either blatantly turning up the volume in a guests face or insulting them. Several people are with him in the bar that he appears to pay to hang out with him with free alcohol, laughing at an escalating and terrible experience. The manager seems amongst them, drinking herself and seen dancing around and laughing even though she states she “cannot do anything about the situation until the morning because I am too tired”. She definitely could have helped the situation instead of encouraging another young French couple to drink excessively and party loudly with the old lecher and doing so herself.

Finally, at 1am the music stays off. Several of us are moved to rooms further away from the main courtyard/bar to the staffs credit. Because of how drunk and strange he was, I still chose to place a chair against the door in case he decided to stumble into our room. 

We were told the reason they have such good reviews is the owner stays in London and when he is gone, there are no issues. Which I believe. 

We decided to move riads completely and forgo the following two evenings. To their credit, when my husband returned they refunded the following two nights. 

The staff deserves an 8-10 and the owner deserves a negative 8-10.

This Riad is a very special place to stay, staff are amazing - particularly Aziz, Baok, Hayat, Mohammed, and Abdo - although everyone at the riad was exceptionally pleasant. One evening we decided to order room service - and wow - tables brought to the room along with table clothes and cutlery. Amazing! Thank you all so much - we loved Marrakesh but this place is a must. Thank you all so much.

Birthday trip for a good friend

We had the most wonderful week.  The Riad is steeped in history and tradition, all lovingly kept alive by the owner and his remarkable team.

The accommodation was of a very high quality, super comfortable and traditional in every aspect.

We took time to book in for a traditional Hammam followed by a massage - very much recommended if you need to de-stress.

The food and service was exceptional, we ate from both the Moroccan and French menus.
Entertainment was very good, a talented pianist, playing an eclectic mix of music from lots of different styles and periods.

The bar, drinks and wine list, again were of an exceptional standard and not expensive. 
Cocktails were amazing.

I highly recommend a stay at this Riad.

A wonderful place to stay

This riad is amazing. Gorgeous rooms with an open fire.Great cocktails & good food.  The staff are so professional & friendly. Highly recommend the hamman experience. Location is great, just a stroll to the center of marrakesh. The people are incredibly welcoming. We will return

A luxurious riad in the center of Marrakesh.

Amazing Riad, although hard to find, especially in the dark.Stunning inside, great host and staff are truly amazing. The room, food, breakfast and facilities are outstanding.The bed could do with updating slightly is the only niggle which stopped it being a 5 star.

My stay at the riad has been a  dreamlike experience. Not only it is a gem in terms of decoration ans style but all the staff working there are absolutely adorable and supportive. They really make you feel at home. I’ve been treated like a princess and I am very thankful for the wonderful experience. You will find everything in the riad to
make your stay magical and you are only steps away from all sights and museums in central Marrakech. I have travelled there alone and thoroughly enjoyed all the amenities the riad offers from hammam, massage to the chefs’ delicious and refined dishes. I will be coming back and thank you so much again!

A Luxurious Retreat in Marrakech

Wow, what a place this is! 
It doesn’t even have a name outside the door so you have no idea what to expect; Marrakech is such a different world to the UK anyway (car journey from the airport is just a crazy 30 mins!) 
Pick up from the main road (the medina is like middle earth!) and then a golf trolley down to this oasis in the middle of chaos 

From the moment you step in, you feel like another world again. Beautiful setting, gorgeous furniture and decoration and the rooms all around a stunning courtyard 

They put on a pianist every night (and a wonderful opera singer Saturday) so if you want to be asleep at 10pm this isn’t for you-riads are large houses so you hear everything! But we found it perfect

The staff are so attentive, the rooms gorgeous (we had the “budget” gazelle room but absolutely loved it)  and the journey to the medina and souks a decent 20 min walk-a bit of a maze but we found it so safe even if it doesn’t immediately look like it-the manners, care and attention of the Moroccan people is noticeable everywhere 

So, do not hesitate to try this amazing riad; we had an evening hot tub under the stars, listened to opera in our beds and had breakfast by the pool all in the middle of the beautiful mayhem that is Marrakech
