R´Mila Medina Fez

We stayed the last week of July (2022) in Morocco. The last two nights were in this beautiful Riad/Hotel and we just loved everything! The place is beautiful, with a small pool to refresh from the plus 40 degrees during the day. The room was great, with an efficient air conditioning, and a cosy decoration! The owner Mohamed is a great person as all the personal. We had an excellent breakfast and everything was treated like we were friends!

Beautiful paradise inside Fes Medina!


Riad R'Mila is a home away from home. It is a beautiful Andalusian inspired oasis in the historic, ancient walled Fes El Bali Medina. Our stay in the Junior Suite was faultless, a very spacious roof top quarter, encompassing the great unique characteristics of Fes. 

The large windows were my favourite feature along with the relaxing lounge area and ornate double wash basins. 

Mohammed was incredibly helpful and full of tips and advice. He would kindly get our water bottles, this was much needed as we travelled in June, when the temperature was high. The Riad has a fully equipped kitchen, which all guests can access 24/7, including a washing machine, kettle and microwave. We loved this. There was ample fresh fruit stalls and fruit juices within the vicinity of the Riad, which were all delicious. 

Mohammed kindly arranged a 4 hour tour for us, this was a great whistle-stop tour of all the important monuments. Our tour guide Anas was very knowledgeable and a pleasure to explore Fes with. He also introduced us to the hilarious term "morrican whisky" :-) The Maghrebi mint tea was one of the best we have had to date! 

The location of Riad R'Mila is brilliant, walking distance to all the main attractions, Ville Nouvelle (new city) is a 15 minute drive, also a very short drive from Fès–Saïs Airport. We were mesmerised by the very unique Medina, which has over 9,000 alley ways. We hired a car and found great parking within walking distance at a reasonable price. 

Breakfast at the Riad is delicious and plentiful with unbelievable hospitality from Aziza. We endearingly called Aziza our Morrocan mom. There was nothing she did not do for us. She really is s very hard working, kind and selfless soul who showed us true Morrocan hospitality. 

We found all the staff at the Riad incredibly friendly, respectful and helpful. 

It was our first stay in a Riad and it was a wonderful experience. 

To anyone wishing to visit Fes, we highly recommend a stay here. The price of our stay was beyond reasonable. 

Mohammed is also at hand if you get in to any difficulty during your stay. He assisted us with everything from best places to shop, things to avoid and how to deal with a very small minority of locals who attempt to mislead tourists. Please don't let this put you off visiting this wonderful destination, where you will see the oldest, lively Medina, get to taste some amazing Gastronomy, the Chouara Tannery, the University of Karueein etc. It is spiritually and culturally rich and we hope to return again.



R'Mila a jewel in the labyrinth

I cannot recommend this place or the staff’s hospitality enough. Mohammed was incredibly quick to respond from before our arrival and throughout - his thoughtfulness and everyone’s warmth and hospitality is a Moroccan treasure in its own right. We felt not just welcome as guests but as family, treated to lovely breakfasts and invited to sit at a beautifully laid out dinner table. Great taxi service both ways, the ease of communication, Jalal’s helpfulness, the lovely lady serving us breakfast and everyone Mohammed put us in touch with have all of our gratitude and we cannot wait to be back. 

The riad itself is positioned well, with a great terrace roof and good facilities throughout. 

A gem of Moroccan hospitality

Situated in the heart of the medina, this riyad is at the centre of activity. Our host met us where our taxi dropped us off which made it a little easy especially at night through the winding narrow alleys. Although, in the daytime its quite easy to navigate.
Our host, Zakaria, was welcoming and was lovely enough to upgrade us to a larger room which was very kind. He was super helpful even taking us to a hamaam around the corner just before it shut. His brother whom we briefly met was also very helpful. They also offered to help us with many other things but it was our last night in Fes so we couldn’t unfortunately take them up on the offer. But thank you for making such a welcoming impression.

The place is very clean and well presented. It is tasteful and representative of a Fez riyad. The breakfast was plentiful and very tasty also. Nice selection and lovely setting to sit to. Fez, when we went was pretty cold at night, so maybe it might be worth asking for an extra blanket and although it is located close to the tanneries I couldn’t smell too much.

We received a very warm welcome with coffee upon arrival, and have kijkt but good things to say about the kind and helpful staff! Near the busy medina this place offered a calm and relaxing spot, in which the owners made us feel welcome and at home.

Lovely oasis in chaotic Fes

Riad is lovely and colourful. Room and bathroom very poor, not clean, cold tap missing and no shower head holder. Blanket not clean so was itchy. Windows have bird dropping so smells once opened. Location is not great, deep in the ghetto with multiple alleys-didnt feel safe at night. Breakfast poor, stale bread, mint tea, flavoured orange juice and boiled egg.

The whole lock had been removed from the door to our room and we were told it would be repaired the next day. Our belongings were then left in the room, open to any other guest or visitor if so inclined. The lock wasn’t repaired and we barely saw the owners. Language was a barrier but that was no fault at all of the owners.Great location though.

Beautiful Peaceful Andalusian Riad set within the backstreets of the Medina. The Riad is around a 10-15 minuite walk of the Madina, it is very easy to follow this walk after you have done it once. The Riad itself is beautiful as its a very dated property of around 600 years old it has a certain grandeur about it, when your sitting in the lobby relaxing by the pool during the day you cant help but ponder over the predecessors of a property of this size with massive solid wooden doors and huge pillars leading to the main building. The building has a kitchen open all hours for guests to use which is fantastic as you can use the kettle if you buy facilities for a cuppa or the fridge to chill your water or cold drinks etc. The pool is shaded by beautiful green trees and has a couple of resident Tortoises! We spent many hours outside relaxing during the day and at night when the lights lit up the atmospheric garden.  The hotel was quiet so we felt comfortable sitting outside with the courtyard to ourselves at night and having the downstairs Jacuzzi room we could sit outside by the pool at night while being able to literally see our little one in room. No taxi driver knows the hotel so be prepared bring the paper work and prepare for a taxi back to the Riad to cost you 20Dirham due to driver getting lost!  The downstairs bathroom did smell however this is a problem outside of europe.5 Min walk to small Masjid Hotel staff friendly and happy to help. Amazing Breakfast!

This place is horrendous to start with. While booking we were asked to immediately pay up before we landed there ( rest of the places we booked in Morocco required us to pay only when we stayed there ). Then when we landed, the entry of the medina from where we entered for this road was very scary , dirty and not at all welcoming ( we later learnt that this part of the medina is very poor area ). After we landed in the riad, we were taken by a "guide" who happened to be 'brother' of the caretaker. We landed at 5 pm. The guide insisted that we go to the tannery first which we happily agreed to. But just as we were outside the medina going towards the tannery, three men came and started speaking to this guide and within minutes ( we could not understand as we are english speaking ) this guide was handcuffed and taken away . The three men were police !!! We were so scared and were stranded on the road in that scary place. wondering what to do , the policeman offered to help us take us back to the hotel. after we reached the hotel, he opened the door ( with the key which was given by guide to policeman , thankfully ) for us and we were all alone. Now wondering what to do in this strange place all stranded, we tried to call from the landline of the riad but that was not working !! Then we mailed to the owners in England to help us out.. but there was no answer. We finally managed to call them up in England . All this lady tells us that she can only apologise !!! Finally the person who was supposed to meet us when we had come to riad was sent . As now it was dinner time, there was nothing to eat in the riad. We were walked to the riad but most of the restaurants were already shut. finally we bought bread and olives and ate. When we were back, there was nobody except us to sleep in the riad. We were so scared about that. Finally we were able to convince our driver to sleep in the riad which he agreed to. Just as we were about to sleep, the electricity went off. We had no clue what to do. And just when were looking at all the fuses of the house, the main door started to open at 1040 pm !!! We were super scared now. Then in walked the caretaker and finally he was able to do something . The next morning, our friends got locked inside the bedroom !! Finally the keys were thrown down to open the room .
What was really unacceptable was that there was no response to the emails which we were frantically writing when we were stranded there !!!
Moreover , we were asked to NOT WRITE the review in trip advisor !!!! But we think we must , must write to warn everyone.
Also another piece of advise is to never ever pay before you reach there... its not the done thing..
