Stayed a week here at the end of July and really enjoyed my stay. My room (room 9 I think) was a huge corner affair with walk in closet and various other areas and was more than big enough for me. It had two balconies with nice views over the nearby streets and into the hills and although there was no aircon, leaving the balcony doors open in the day provided enough breeze to cool the room. The bed was large and comfortable and there was plenty of hanging space for clothes and powerpoints etc. 
My only issue with the room was the noise from the streets at night, particularly at the weekend which went on til the early hours. Ear plugs would be the solution if you are a light sleeper although noise in mexico (people/cars/fireworks/horns) is a way of life!
The toilet and shower were good with plenty of hot water at all times although the sink only had cold water which was a little odd. Shaving in cold water isn't ideal but you get used to it!
Breakfasts were varied and good and served in the pleasant courtyard although not sure whether they would be quite so pleasant if it was raining hard or in the winter.
The staff, including the manager, Fernando, were really friendly and although spoke little English they did their best to give advice and help when asked.
I would definitely recommend this small hotel/B&B and would stay here again

Great location and well run

Parador San Fernando is centrally located between Zocalo/Benito Juarez market and cathedral of Santo Domingo. Everything was walking distance with lots of restaurants and art galleries nearby. Staff speaks both English and Spanish and are extremely helpful, accommodating, and inviting. The breakfast was great and varied everyday. It was mostly Mexican/Oaxacan food which we loved. Our room's window was facing the street and it was a bit noisy with the traffic. We thought it would be a problem falling asleep but it didn't really affect us. The bathroom's sink was small but we had a big room to lay toiletries nearby. It is a very spacious room. We stayed at the hotel for a week and we definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Oaxaca! 

Great location and friendly staff

The hotel is in a Great location right near Alcala and the Zucalo.
The owner is lovely, helps with everything and is truly friendly and chatty.
Pretty rooms and coffee in the morning.
All in all I loved it, good experience.

Really nice

The Parador San Fernando is more of a hostel than a hotel or B&B. It’s centrally located in the historic district of Oaxaca. It is a small facility, with only a few rooms around a central courtyard and interspersed with some business offices. The proprietor is very friendly and helpful.  Breakfast is included in the daily and it is adequate to fill you up prior to your daily activities. Try to get a room back from the street. As always street noise in a busy, central district can be challenging for light sleepers and the facility is located right on a corner.  Rooms were large, clean and fairly modern, though spartan. There is no air conditioning so keep this in mind when visiting in the summer. The main cathedral, square, and a host of restaurants and shops are located within just a few minutes walk. We have found that the quality of Parador brand hotels can vary significantly from hotel to hotel and this one does not have all the amenities of others in the city. One area of concern. The proprietor locks the door with a padlock at night. That makes the building more secure but also creates a safety hazard if there were to be a fire. Overall, a reasonable stay if you are on a tight budget.

A Nice Hostel/Decent Budget Hotel with a Very Helpful Proprietor

I reserved 3 nights here thru Trip Advisor (and their partner, Tingo) and paid in advance.  I arrived at 3:30 PM.  No one was at the B&B; it was totally locked up; I rang the bell, and no one answered.  I called the owner/manager and left a message on his voice mail.  I texted him.  He never responded.  I called a few more times, and finally got hold of him at 5:30.  He claimed he never got the reservation from Tingo, even though I had a confirming e mail.  He also said he was fully booked and could not accommodate me.  He made no offer to help me find a place to stay.  I later found out there was an acceptable B&B right across the street from him, which seems to often have availability.

I later contacted Tingo to be refunded for the three nights.  After four days, I called them back, and they said they had tried to reach the B&B a number of times, but couldn't get anyone to  answer.  They tried again and my problem was finally resolved.

If you reserve on line, I strongly suggest you reconfirm directly with this hotel to ensure they have your reservation.  Good luck trying to get hold of the manager.
