Villa St Cruz Los Mochis

Arrived at the end of the line for the CHEPE, commonly called the Copper Canyon Train. It was late evening, and the taxi driver brought me here along with a couple of other travelers from the train. It was right next to the bus station. I took a side trip by bus to Guadalajara, then stayed another night here before catching the ferry to La Paz in Baja. Both times I arrived exhausted, and found this place a welcome sight. It cost less than $40 a night, accepted a credit card, and provided a free breakfast in the morning. It even had a nice swimming pool in an unusual design which I used during the second visit. The architecture wouldn't look out of place in South Beach, vaguely Miami Modern. The rooms and common areas are decorated with some kinda cool looking paintings in geometric shapes. There are coolers with potable water positioned in the hallways. The only downside is that the surrounding area lacks restaurants or much of anything of interest, though there's an OXXO convenience store a few blocks away that sold excellent tamales. The breakfast area of the hotel is apparently a restaurant, but it's only open at certain times of the day. It seemed like a fairly safe area at night, with a walkway along the island in the middle of the street.
