Great location in the heart of the gay district, and close to major tourist attractions. Our bathroom is in the corner of the bedroom, not a separate room. Can use kitchen to escape the monotony of Mexican food.  Wal-Mart only 20 min. walk away. Cheap. 

Good location

We stayed in Room 113, probably one of the best rooms since we were the only guests paying for private accommodation (they also have rooms with shared bath). And there were only one or two other guests staying at the hotel. Our reservation through booking.com stated a “king room” but our room had a double bed plus a single. The bed was firm but comfortable. The room was very clean, although we saw three cockroaches (cucarachas) scurry across the floor the first morning, but none after that. To get hot water, you have to run the water for a while, then it gets very hot and you have to add cold water to make it bearable. The water pressure is very low: good enough for a shower,but sometimes we had to fill a bucket of water to make the toilet flush properly. Low wattage eco lightbulbs are used throughout, so it was difficult to read since there was no reading lamp. Wi fi connection was good in this room. The signal would sometimes be dropped just for a minute or two. The room was nice and large, with a good size bathroom and shower. There’s no air conditioning, but with the window and the patio door open, there’s  a great cross-breeze, as well as a floor fan to stay cool. The hotel has a kitchen with basic amenities make a snack or a light meal. They also have a place to do hand wash. 
We liked the terrace outside our door, where there was a table and chairs to sit outside. We didn’t watch TV but to make it work you had to hold the remote right next to the box. The night desk clerk, Manual, was very helpful. We paid $M395/night during the off season which seemed like good value. It’s a budget hotel so you get what you pay for.

Budget accommodation: big rooms and nice terrace

We are a mature couple and we have stayed here for two months.
The location is excellent, with a 5 minute walk to the central pedestrian core.
The hotel has a locked entrance and  is very secure.
Staff are very friendly and helpful (and patient with our poor Spanish).
Rooms are well appointed and very clean.
WiFi is excellent. There is good access in all areas of the hotel.
The hot water is reliable (although it takes a few minutes to run hot).
The kitchen is well equipped, and kept clean and organized by the staff.

Excellent value

Good location, just a few blocks from the cathedral.  The place is reasonably pleasant and I wouldn't warn you away the some reviewer have.  A few downsides:  There is a bit of an odor from the drains, as is quite common in older Mexican buildings.  When I asked about the water they said not to drink it but despite this didn't provide any bottled water.  My room was just across from the registration desk and there seemed to be no effort made at all to keep voice down during sleeping hours.  The price was high considering the quality of the place:  $450 pesos.  Having said all of this, however, I can't say that I was terribly uncomfortable.  Wouldn't be my first choice though.

Typical modest Mexican hotel with some downsides

I really urge travelers to stay away from this hotel. The bathrooms are completely filthy; there seems to be a swarm of flies living in there and the toilet doesn't always flush. The staff was incredibly rude and try to take advantage of you if you don't speak Spanish very well. I don't believe they clean the rooms either. They only go in briefly to make the beds and sometimes empty your trash can, giving the illusion that they spent a lot of time in there.

The hotel is located next to a  very busy street where people are yelling and blasting music until about 2am almost every night. Even closing the doors doesn't completely shut out the noise. Leaving and entering the hotel requires that someone buzzes you through the door so you might have to wait several minutes before someone is able to come out. 

Staying at this hotel really made my stay in Mexico pretty terrible. The staff made my trip incredibly difficult and having to speak to them stressed me out and made me incredibly angry. Please, please, please find somewhere else to stay. Not worth it even if it were free.
