We were traveling with Natural Habitat Adventures... they arranged everything.... and they found this hotel for the group.  I thought it was wonderful.  But, high altitude lodging is not for the faint of heart.  There is no heat, per se in the rooms.  They have ethanol fireplaces - where they put in a can of ethanol - light the fire... and it burns... 'til it burns out.  They also gave us hot water bottles to sleep with.  The beds have thick flannel sheets and blankets and we were warned to bring long underwear and hats to sleep in.  Another thing is - you can't flush TP.  You put in a trash can.  If you can get around these quirks - then I think you'll enjoy staying close to the reserve... especially if you plan on going more than one day.  I also want to say that the food was very good.  .

So close to the El Rosario

The hotel manager is fantastic. She’s all about customer service. The hotel/town is in a remote location. The accommodations were better than expected for such a remote location. Fleece sheets to keep you warm at night, the room was very clean, the bathroom towels were also very clean. If you need a hair dryer, request one at check in. I did not need the fireplace turned on. My visit was in March. Cash only, but I was told ahead of time, so I was prepared. The manager arranged a guide to take me to the butterfly sanctuary. I went during the off-season, so arrangements need to be made for the restaurant. I wouldn’t expect a restaurant in a hotel to be open for one guest. There are convenience stores within walking distance from the hotel. Overall, I had a great experience. If you call the hotel, and they don’t answer, leave a message. They respond quickly. 

Great service 

This is cute traditional style hotel in Angangueo. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The room was small but the bathroom was large which is not that common in Mexico. Restaurant served very  tasty food. Entire place is very clean with pleasant decor. The hotel had arranged the guide for Rosario Monarch butterfly  Sanctuary. All in all I recommend this place when you visit Angangueo.

Small quaint hotel

Not sure how this place got so many good reviews. Overpriced for what you get. Staff is extremely rude, hotel is poorly managed. No one is ever available at reception. A room for two people was tiny. Bed felt like it was 50 years old, sheets were pilling and extremely itchy. Bathroom floor was wet and dirty when we arrived. Floors appeared like they hadn’t been cleaned in awhile. Hot water is not on demand, you have to request a time for it to be turned on. No heat in rooms. Fire place is only lit for an hour and the room becomes extreme cold through the night. If you don’t want to freeze you have to pay for extra time which you can't get since no one is ever at reception. No amenities in the room.  Static on the tv could barely make out a picture. Good luck if you have a car, parking lot is small and your car will likely get damaged. Felt like a cheap hostel, but even most hostels are nicer than this place and cost less money. You’d be better off camping since this place is a dump. Don’t waste your money, stay somewhere else!!

Terrible stay, do not recommend!

Both room and bathroom are spacious, basic but efficient. Water was hot and you can require a hairdryer when you check-in. WiFi signal was good too. Staffs were very friendly. Hotel has restaurant and the price was reasonable. By the way, if you have difficulty to find this hotel, Hotel Don Bruno is at opposite side of street, 100 meters away.

A nice inn in a rural town

This hotel is in a great location to see the monarch migration.  The staff is kind.  Make sure to ask about the restaurant ahead of time.  It was closed for our entire stay, so we had to find another place to eat for all meals.  It is also very loud at night with lots of traffic.  We left a day early because of lack of sleep.  Bring cash because they do not accept credit card.

Great location

We have visited the butterfly reserves and this town three times and have always stayed at another hotel nearby. This time, that hotel was booked and we decided to stay at La Margarita. I have to say that my expectation was very low, but the hotel and the people made it a lovely stay! We were 4 families traveling together. Showers were hot (we were advised when the hot water would be on) and they came around to offer chimney service/lighting in the evening for those who were interested.  We ate dinner and breakfast at the hotel and everything was fine.

In the morning, when it was time for us to depart, they were filming a movie in the street outside of the hotel.  A hotel staff member jumped into our vehicle, and he helped us navigate around so we could be on our way.

Very easy location, walkable into town but not in the heart of it. We spent the day at the Sierra Chincua reserve before our night at La Margarita....and then headed to the Reserva Rosario the morning after..... easy access to both from the hotel.  Also, parking on site, in the compound of the hotel is available.

Easy Access to Butterfly Reserves

My wife got sick the day we arrive in Angangueo. The hotel staffs, Juan Gabriel and the lady at the restaurant were very helpful and really went above and beyond. What they did for us was amazing, they helped my wife getting the care she needed and made sure we get the most of our stay/trip. I am very thankful for them. We are hoping to be back to the area one day and would definitely stay at Hotel La Margarita again!

Extremely helpful people!

Angangueo is a lovely little town in the mountains, and a great place to stay the night en route to see the monarchs.

I would highly recommend this hotel. Don't expect ritzy Club-Med style accommodation though, this is a rural town. The room was clean, the staff friendly and helpful, the wifi works, there was a heater in the room, the water was hot(ish), and yes, bring something warm to sleep in and snuggle up. I slept soundly. A great experience!
