I stay here every chance i get. One of the best rooms and balcony views in Laos. Quiet and peaceful, friendly staff, clean rooms, and super hot shower. Downside is it's a little ways from the center of town, best with a car or motorbike. 

The hotel is on the site of the old runway.   There is a vibrant market and food stalls nearby.   There is a nightclub but I didn't go there and it's far enough away from the hotel not to be a nuisance.   I had breakfast by prior arrangement at the Runway Restaurant which was freshly prepared for me each morning.   The staff were friendly and eager to please.   The rooms were clean and comfortable.   I thought it was reasonably priced.

If you're coming to Phonsavan and if you're willing to make some compromises, you can have a good time at the Phouviengkham hotel. I have visited the town four times and checked out 2-3 hotels at every occasion, and in my opinion, this place is the best (maybe with the exception of the other hillside resort, but I have not visited that one yet, and it is even farther out of town).

+ enjoy the stunning view from your own spacious terrace
+ spacious room including two king size beds, which might not be up to international standards, but which are definitely at the upper end of everything I have experienced in Laos so far
+ friendly and helpful staff: offering shuttle services for free to town and airport anytime we asked

- the bathroom needs some renovations, shower door missing, etc
- no mini bar (but two small water bottles provided for free)
- restaurant is open only for breakfast

+/- breakfast is a rather limited event, as expected: fresh eggs and baguette, fruits, butter and jam, coffee and tea

Best hotel in Phonsavan

Wow, this place is amazing. Could be something really special win stunning views etc but it is cold and friendless. Almost no one there to help guests and try speaking English..no tuk tuk service from town after about 9pm when  Phonsavan totally closes down. Fortunately we got the owner of the local cafe to arrange a car for us. Going down the slope to breakfast was a chore. The meal itself was.....different!

Overdeveloped and underachiever

This hotel situated on top of a hill overlooking the town has a wonderful view but it has many shortcomings. After a warm welcome by a young man with limited English we were shown our room. The rooms are all in semi-detached chalets, on stilts, with three predominately glass walls. The temperature at night dropped to around 5 degs C and the the heating didn’t work. My wife and I had to wear 3 layers to keep warm.
Some of the electrics didn’t work and a bedside light had a broken switch. The bathroom was outdated although water was hot. The drain in the shower was higher than the surrounding floor so the water drained through a gap in the shower base onto the bathroom floor.
The  restaurant was closed in the evening but opened for breakfast. Breakfast was adequate but there was no choice.
The limited number of staff were friendly and willing but the property had clearly been neglected during Covid and still lacked care and attention.
Phonsavan is a developing town and there is surely a better choice than this run down hotel.

A run down hotel lacking care and attention.

Not sure what's going on here, but it's prob not completely kosher! Stayed here one night and turned up unannounced. No other guests, lobby a mess, 8 blokes drinking Johnny Walker Blue label. Asked for a room and rate. Much confusion and shown a room that was huge with mismatched bedding, creaky floors and filthy bathroom. Quite frankly it was bloody creepy! 

Very strange hotel !

The only good thing about this hotel is the view. The rooms are in semidetached cottages. There are big gaps in the window and door frames and since there are big windows on both sides of the room, there is a strong draft. While we were there night temperatures were around +3C and it was very windy. The heating (Mitsubishi air pumps) worked only sporadically and we were freezing cold in spite of double extra blankets. With the exception of the sheets and the bathroom the place was filthy, the windows looked as if they hadn't been washed since the place was built some seven years ago. There was supposed to be a restaurant, but there was no staff and therefore nothing to be had. The little town with a few simple decent restaurant was quite a hike down the hill. Breakfast consisted of instant coffee, bananas, fried eggs( done well ahead of time, a bun and some rice gruel. with the exception of one young woman who took care of breakfst, nobody spoke any English. The whole place feels totally neglected. There is some sort of slow wifi which works unreliably.
Unless you are a backpacker used to really roughing it - don't go there.

forget this place

Terrible place to stay althougha great view. Far too far out of town without your own transport. Our room was unclean, the bed as hard as a rock and the pillows so plump they were impossible to use. Mosquitoes in our room, dogs barking all night. Cutlery was not clean in the restaurant where we were supposed to have breakfast. Breakfast was not acceptable for a ‘deluxe hotel’. We left after one night.
