Travelled with my partner and her parents (Japanese). Admittedly difficult for a couple of young people not having much data reception there and one or two issues with a light switch in the bathroom. However, it was pretty good, the owner I believe is from Kansai and was quite nice. The staff made a good breakfast and dinner.

unexpected, quite nice

We were in Yamanakoko in April 2016. Our first time staying in a Pension.The place was very quaint and tastefully done up. The owners were delightful. Truly lovely hosts who really made us feel at home. Abala san even picked us up from Fujisan train station which is a 30-minute drive from the Pension as late as 10pm at night and he was ever-ready to drop us off at the nearest bus stations and train stations any time of day - the weather was perfect, so we preferred to walk. The breakfast at Pension Vivien Claire is something I still talk about. Hearty and delicious.
The room itself was small but clean and comfortable enough for our two-day stay. The place is a bit tucked in. But just about a 7-minute walk to the main road and we were able to hop on to a bus to Kawaguchiko station. Recommended if you don't mind staying a bit away from the main buzz.
