Staff are nice and like to talk, safe place and we would come back again

In a small alley in Kyoto lies a small guesthouse with a big heart.
Ve had a very warm and informative welcome. Lots of info on the neighbourhood, buses, and restaurants.
Rooms are traditional,tatami mats and mattress on the floor.
One small kitchen on the top floor,plus toilet and sink. Shower on first floor,nice clean and well organised. Our room had a small balcony where we could dry and air clothes.
The areas round the guesthouse are nice and quiet,small alleys and residential. But near to all transportation. Also near to river with many areas to picnic and stroll.
Many good restaurants in the neighbourhood.
When I go back to Kyoto this will surely be my first option if there are vacancies,a lovely house coloured by its graceful owners.

Small Wonder

This guest house has the charm of this beautiful city. Although I do not like shared bath or shower, here the privacy was there. Furthermore when you take the shower jazz music is there for you to relax. The hosts thus lovely couple are just perfect. Very kind and helpful always at your disposal. The room is lovely you feel like in the ancient Kyoto. Last but not least great value for money, 

Lovely place to stay in Kyoto 

My experience with Bonteiji started just a day or so after booking. I received an email from the owners with instructions on how to arrive at the hotel, although it was several months in advance. The rooms are clean, uniquely decorated and are furnished with authentic Japanese furniture, tatami, and the fluffiest futons ever! The shower and toilet are shared facilities (not my usual preference), but the design of the guesthouse makes it feel so private and comfortable that I felt right at ease. My husband, who is a fan of unconventional hotels and is perfectly alright with shared facilities, absolutely loved the place. There is a common area and kitchen right next to the rooms as well, equipped with a washing machine, refrigerator, toaster, rice cooker, microwave, drinking water and hot water. The owners give guests a tour of the place right after they check in, so don't worry about feeling lost. The guesthouse is located close to Kyoto University and a train station, but requires some traveling time to get to attractions like Kinkakuji and Fushimi Inari Shrine. Nevertheless, the owners were happy to give us travel tips and directions. It was a great stay and Bonteiji certainly deserves all the high ratings it has been given.

Sweet owners, a comfortable stay and a unique experience!

Very good location with sweet people welcoming you. Its more like homestay, clean, all at ease. Whats hippy abt this place? Small charming deco details, simplicity and great jazz music that you can listen in the shower :). I would have asked for a tarot session with lady Fuku-san but we were on the budget and couldnt afford this time.

A small place tucked away on the north side of town. Rooms are basic but good - the shared shower is downstairs past reception and the toilet upstairs adjoining the rooms. The couple who run it were very sweet and always trying to be helpful. Only a 5 minute walk from the nearest tube stop.
