I visited solo in March and needed directions so I popped in and ended up staying over an hour having drinks and chatting with the excellent staff, Yuya and Haruka. When he found out I was from Tennessee, he broke out into some Elvis♥️ The sake was on point and I had a wonderful time. Will be staying here when I visit again in December. 

Friendly staff, very good drinks♥️

Some reviewers say it was too expensive, but it was worth it compared to the other hostels in Japan. Super modern and clean. Friendly staff where they kept rules firm about the quiet time. There are security lockers for your important belongings. Bedding is so clean and they upkeep the toilets and showers very well! They provide hair dryers in the washroom which is amazing as alot of places Ive stayed did not provide that. The sleeping spaces are like bunk beds but I found that I had alot of space! I could literally keep a backpack next to me in bed

Its at the best area of Tokyo (literally Asakusa is the best location to stay in Tokyo for the walking and feeling of being in Japan). I could go eat at any kind of meal around this location. Near the subway to go around Tokyo and near Sensoji temple. 

When I go back to Japan, this is the place Im sleeping at!

Best Hostel for Its price

The drink menu, and more specifically so the sake (nihonshu) menu, is great! We come here periodically and never ever have we had a bad experience. The friendly staff knows the drinks they are serving and can give spot on recommendations if you tell them your preference. The food menu is ever changing and there are always items on the menu that will entice your taste buds. The pricing is good too and you can easily spend an evening in this relaxed atmosphere without getting ruined.

The mattress and pillow are comfortable, and hostel is somewhat stylish but that is all. Rooms are a joke. Rooms? Communal spaces. I did not know I would be sharing the communal space (aka room) with 30 other people. I did not remember that on my reservation and after double checking, yes, in a marketing strategy, they call it “mixed dorm” – without disclosing the number of people who will be sharing space with you. I would have never agreed to that. Can you believe they crammed 30 beds in one single space? It is hard enough to sleep in rooms with more than 5 – good luck with 29 other tourists, some of them not so aware of coexistance rules. 

And the plywood that surrounds the beds have a terrible acoustic effect. You can hear anything other people do. It will echo right into your soul. There was one night I did not sleep at all. 

Besides, it is so crammed you don´t even had room for a medium sized luggage, having to leave it in the narrow corridors between one bed and the other. Good luck trying to open it when people are trying to pass by. 

Cleaning is also not one of their strengths either. The pubic hair I saw on the sink was there through out my 2-day stay (it was meant to be 3). Needless to say, I ended up booking a place somewhere else. 

For that price, you can book a private room in a small hotel in Tokyo. Simple and small but at least you would have privacy and a decent night sleep. 


Bad joke

Tawaramachi station is the nearest subway sta to the hostel about 5-7mins walk. The hostel staffs are friendly and accommodation. The hostel dont have a free towel instead they let you rent one at 100yen if you needed one. The changing of beddings depends on you. if you decide to change it, you are the one to do the changing of beddings. Restaurants are around the hostel and don qui is just few steps away.

Good Location

Great location in Asakusa, the Tokyo historic district with easy access to transportation and all attractions. 
The staff is very friendly and available to help you 24h/7.
The place is very clean and has a bar at ground floor.

Great value

Good location - in a nice area with a good atmosphere and lots of options for food / drink as well as walking distance to a metro. 

Modern hostel - clean pods and good bathroom with a hot shower. 

BAD nights sleep. Stayed here for five nights. The dorms are too big - about 30 people in each and whilst it’s not the hostels fault... the noise of 30 people coming and going (rattling around and unpacking at any given hour) is too much. The pods have good privacy but are noisy. You can hear every movement of the person in the pod next to you. I found this an issue for a stay in a city like Tokyo which is so action packed - a bad nights sleep can really impact your time. 

Bad sleep but modern hostel 

I stayed in many hostels and I was quite disappointed about that one. In fact, there are no life rules in the dorms that it seems to be important because everyone can make noise as they want that has been the case when I was there. I didn’t sleep very well in that hostel. The air conditioner was too cold and everywhere in the hostel (Lonny, dorms). It’s not necessary to put the air conditioner that cold! 

The bathrooms were clean including the toilets. Good point! 

Breakfast too simple for the price. Only one slice of bred per person! 

The lockers are quite small but this is nice to get one anyway.

Good location in Tokyo near to the Asakusa station (6 minutes by walk) and 15 minutes from the Ueno station. Near to some of restaurants all around.

This hostel could be better! 

It’s was my first time staying at hostel, like my old college days. Plus first time in Tokyo. At first I was turned off and was not looking forward to my stay. But after the first night I was sold on this place. The bed was great and at night it was relatively quiet. The bathroom and shower were extremely clean along with the dorms. The staff were great and went the extra mile for its guests. The bar was very nice with great selection of drinks. They provided free shampoo and soap in the shower. Plenty of extra towels available too. Great place to stay at a great price. Plus close to major attractions in Tokyo and the subway. I will definitely stay again. This was my second trip to Japan and in the past I’ve stayed in hostels that were quite uncomfortable etc. but at Bunka this was not the case! Such a great little hostel in the best location, so close to everything right outside your door. They make your beds every day and provide a clean towel on your bed. The dorms were great sizes for a hostel and bathrooms very clean with plenty to accomodate the amount of people staying on each level. Overall a fantastic experience and will be recommending to friends. Only thing I will say is that it gets a little bit stuffy at night in your hub so I’d open my curtain a tiny bit to let in some air. Also it is right near a convenient train station and the Asakusa temples. Staff super friendly!
