While this hotel is not near the main train station, it's within walking distance of many city attractions such as the Saito villa, Furumachi shopping street, and the Bandai Bridge. Hence, I decided to base here instead of their much more convenient branch. It's only a 10 minute bus ride to Niigata station and the hotel also runs a free shuttle bus roughly twice an hour during the morning rush hour and from late afternoon onwards to their other location next to the station. There is a convenience store and Yoshnioya that opens until 3am a block away.

Room is standard as Japanese hotel size. It's clean and comfortable.

Staffs are kind and helpful.

We have arrived at the hotel at around noon knowing that we cannot check in before 4pm. The receptionist Mr. T gave us 2 smoking rooms and a non-smoking room. We showed him an email confirmation from Agoda that 3 non-smoking rooms are confirmed. Mr T said he doesn’t care what Agoda said and there is nothing he could do. I asked him to contact Expedia until we come back 4 hours later. He refused to contact Expedia. We came back after dinner and had no option but to use the smoking room with bad odour. 
When we tried to enter room 508, the door would not open, and we asked Mr. T to give us a different room. He rudely refused and told us to wait. It took an hour to get into the room using an “emergency” key. While we were waiting at the corridor for an hour the only word he said was “chotto mate kudasaiyo”. I have never seen   a Japanese staff so rude in my life. We are so disappointed that such a rude person is working as a receptionist at Toyoko-inn. The hotel was inexpensive but should not be a “CHEAP” one.

It is the business chain hotel. The staffs in the front desk cannot speak fluent English, so you need to have some translating preparation for your questions.

We've stayed here every visit to Niigata City for past 10 years and the experience is always outstanding. The rooms are always clean, well maintained, and consistent. The location is convenient to the Honcho and Furumachi areas of town. Staff is always helpful and friendly. Breakfast is great too with local foods. Super great value as well. Highly recommend this hotel.

Great value and experience in Niigata City

The location of the hotel is a bit far from Niigata station, but close to everything in Furumachi. They also have a shuttle bus from the station to the hotel. Checkin was quick and the room was slightly larger than your average Japanese hotel room. Services were good, and the bed was comfortable. All at a reasonable price during golden week!

Nice hotel in Furumachi

The staff were very friendly and helpful. They were able to recommend restaurants, give directions and information to local sites, etc. My wife and i enjoyed the accomodations. Very clean and comfortable with nice amenities.  They even refresh the room daily. We also enjoyed the modest Japanese breakfast. The location was good, fairly close to the center of town.

Recommend this hotel-great value, great service.

This hotel starts on the fourth floor, so finding it can be confusing for those, like us, easily confused.  With a good breakfast included, this is a very good value hotel.  Right next to the station, we used it for a one night stopover.  It was clean, comfortable, staff were helpful, everything you want from a hotel.
