We stayed for overnight with dinner and breakfast. The staff is nice though I cant understand most of what she’s saying since its japanese but she tried to communicate still. They are very strict with time, when you schedule your private onsen, you cannot re-sched again if you missed it. Unfortunately we missed ours since we went out for a stroll and was not able to come back on time. The dinner was super delicious as well as their breakfast. Its a really old ryokan but comfy. We were able to try public onsen since we were the only ones to use it that time and its very relaxing. Id stay again if we ever come back.

Great Food

We arrived at Yufuin around 11.30am before the check in time at 3pm. As expected, no early check in is allowed and but we’re able to keep our luggage at the ryokan before check in. 

My friend would like to use his laptop in the reception area but the staff informed that there is no power plug point available. He can only use the laptop in our room after check in. 

The room is a standard ryokan tatami with attached bathroom and toilet. Sumptuous kaiseki dinner was served in the room while breakfast on the next day was served at the dining area near the reception. We really enjoyed the dinner and breakfast in the ryokan.  

The are three hot spring onsen in the ryokan with one outdoor private onsen strictly by reservation during check in only. The other two onsen switched between men and women at different time slot. 

The ryokan is located within 5 minutes walking distance from the train station. There’s a supermarket not far from the ryokan. I’ve rented the bicycle to ride around the kirinko lake in the early morning. 

Small scale but comfy ryokan

As in Yufuin, many Ryokan is expensive, it's value is reasonable, close to station, breakfast included and servicing time are 7:00, 7:30 and 8:00(3 period) for us to choose, taste good with good services. Must keep quite at lobby, luggage can leave in lobby until 12:00 noon after check-out at 10:00a.m. Check-in is 3:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. 

Ryokan Jyounoyu

We stayed here for two nights during a trip to southern Japan. Overall, we were pleased with our choice - a decent inn for the price - but weren't blown away by any particular aspect. 

The location is quite convenient - one of the closer hotels to the station. We were lugging a heavy suitcase, but still found it an easy, 5-10 minute walk. There seems to be taxis available at the station too. 

Based on other reviews, it sounds like there may be "western style" rooms (with beds) here, but we booked a traditional room. It was fine - not fancy, but a decent-sized tatami sleeping area, a sitting room by the window, and a private bathroom. 

Most of the staff were pretty friendly, though we found the owner a bit gruff. Almost all the guests were foreigners, but it didn't seem like many of the staff spoke much English. 

Breakfast was included, and it was quite tasty - a typical spread for this type of traditional inn. We didn't partake in the optional dinners. 

There are three baths - one upstairs with a view and  another downstairs without (those two switch between men's and women's daily), and  another rooftop bath. That one can be reserved in 40-minute blocks each night. We went after dark, so didn't see much, but it was nice to enjoy a bath together (something that often isn't possible at most spas, where sexes are separated). 

Yufuin is a very popular spot, and my sense is that many of the hotel options are quite expensive. So while we felt we were paying a lot for what we got here, the price was probably fair, given the other options. 

Okay, but not special, Japanese inn 

it's close to the train station and offers a budget option if you want to have a japanese onsen hotel experience with full breakfast. staff with very limited english. there two public baths on first and third floor for male/female on alternate days. there is also a roof top private bath , u need to prebook. overall not bad for the price

Onsen hotel

it's a small ryokan with only 11 rooms in 3 floors. The staff can speak only a bit in English so you have to know Japanese (at least N4) to stay here. Moreover, the sign in the front of the hotel is also in Japanese with no English description. (上の湯) 

If you don't mind with the language barriere, this ryokan is suitable for your vacation. You can walk from the station to here in 5 mins and the staffs are very friendly. Lawson(convenient store) is next to the ryokan. Breakfast in the hall is very traditional and super delicious. Also, the scenary from the onsen from the third floor is awesome!
