We have recently returned from staying at the Ondina and wish to say how lovely everything was. Yes the room and bathroom were basic, but always clean. The owner is very welcoming and so helpful. His recommendations kept us away from the other tourists and towards the local restaurants and facilities, all of which were excellent. Although this was not our first time in Italy, it was our first time in Viareggio, it was very, very hot…the beach was lovely and private, so you will have to pay. We will revisit in the cooler months that’s for sure. Excellent value and once again a terrific and helpful host.

Great place to stay

Lovely small friendly hotel with a fantastic owner Jordano. He and wife Patrizia were friendly, helpful and very accommodating always. Jordano's recommendations, and reservations made, gave us fantastic dining for good prices too.
The hotel doesn't have a lift (not a problem) and doesn't serve breakfast (there's 3-4 good places within a few minutes so no issue), hence 2* but don't be fooled. Great friendly place with brilliant owner.

We stay for the third time in this fantastic hotel. It is a lovely small hotel with a very nice sphere. The rooms has all the comfortable things you need in your holiday. The beach and the boulevard, with a lot of shops and restaurants, are around the corner. The owners and doorkeeper are very great and friendly people; they will always give information and will help with other things.

the owner of the hotel was very helpful he explained us everything. the hotel was near the sea only 5 min walk!!!!the room itself was very cosy and neat!)i totally recommend this place to stay in it!)

i love our stay there!!!

We were a group of 5 and stayed for 4 nights.  We had three rooms right by each other, with an outdoor space set aside just for our use.  It was ideal having that space as we could hang out and have a drink together before heading out.  The rooms were clean and functional.  The bathroom was a bit cramped but otherwise fine.  The owner was super-helpful, giving us excellent restaurant recommendations and tips about travelling around the region.  Location was good - a few minutes walk to the beach and about 10-15min walk to the train station.  The beach associated with the hotel is great, I would recommend paying as the free beach is quite far away and not half as nice.  Overall, I would highly recommend Hotel Ondina.

Helpful friendly owner, good location

Based on the friendliness and helpful attitude of the owner and staff, I would love to recommend this hotel. Location is very good, just one block from the beach. The outside "hangout" area at the back was convenient for us traveling as a group. The lovely owner had tips and recommendations for just about anything we could ask and was very welcoming. 

That said, however, the rooms are tiny and the bathrooms even smaller. We had problems being able to sit down on the toilet due to lack of leg space. The shower cabinet was falling apart and in general, the furniture etc. were worn down and old-fashioned. It was clean, though, and beds were OK. For a cheaper price I would not have complained, however, for almost 100 euro per room per night excluding breakfast you do expect a certain standard. 

If you are not too bothered with space and topped-up room standards but appreciate being warmly welcomed and feeling at home, and want to stay close to the beach, I would recommend this hotel.

Good location, friendly owner, lesser value

The room was small and over a noisy main road. The biggest complaint was the poor quality of the mattress with springs digging through.

We were 'accidently' overcharged at the end, however this was quickly corrected when I queried the amount.
