One of my goals for my first Ireland vacation was to see the sun rise on the East Coast and set on the West Coast. The location for this B and B was perfect for this. It's also on a major busline for Dublin Bus 102, which comes and goes to the airport as well as to the center of Malahide. The walk into Malahide center is not too far and pretty flat. Taxis are also very easy in this area and not too expensive. Malahide is a beautiful town! 

Our room and en suite was small and clean as expected. It was on par with most B and Bs or Guesthouses in Europe that I have stayed at that offer similar accommodations at the same price. The value was "as expected" so we were pleased, overall. The Wifi works well and hosts will ask you what you want for breakfast. I liked this because I do not eat a lot in the morning and I often feel like I am wasting food at places that will serve me more than I can consume.

Roger was very helpful via email and during our stay. 

Make sure you ask about areas that guests are allowed to occupy and not occupy. We thought the downstairs breakfast room, including sofa and TV, was open for guests all hours. Later, we were told this area was not open for guests except at breakfast. This was a bit embarassing for us as we consider ourselves to be very polite people who are extremely well-traveled. We wished we had been given a "one sheet" stating what areas are on and off limits to guests. So, that is just a suggestion :-).

We had a very warm welcome by our host, after driving here from the airport.
We had a nice and clean room.
Great breakfast to make a good start on our first day of walking in Ireland.
On advise of our host, we took the bus to Dublin in the evening, to visit a few pubs.

First Stop for our Ireland walk

The morale of the story is you get what you pay for.  Everything is small (bed, bathroom, towels, even the bar of soap) but so is the price.  Very Spartan-like accommodations.  Owners were friendly and got up early to give us a continental breakfast before we caught an early flight   Definitely budget accommodations, but only place avaiable that night that wasn't graded worse.

I realised when we arrived why it had been easy to book! I had failed to find any other accommodation in the area I wanted. There was a concert on that weekend so all hotels and B & B's were booked out. The house was drab and 'en suite' barely worthy of the title. We decided not to shower because it was grubby and really was in need of a refurb. The owner was good enough to order us a cab, but that's really where the hospitality ended. Breakfast was just about adequate, not the generous offering you'd expect and get in most places in Ireland. We were asked what we would like when we arrived, I thought that a bit strange. If the hosts wanted to limit the selection available they could produce a menu to reflect that.
