We stayed at Gorayya before and after our trekking. We were a group of 10 and hence had the luxury of having the whole house to ourself. It’s a lovely property with a lot of character. Each room opens to a terrace and every nook & corner i
Has a different character & feel.
It’s an ideal place to relax, spend quality time reading books & detoxing oneself.
The service from the staff is excellent- Ajay & Buddhiman are extremely helpful and addressed all our needs including food.
Buddhiman’s cooking is par excellence.
Most importantly all these facilities available at a reasonable price. 
I would highly recommend.

A homestay which feels like home

Gorayya Homestay is just amazing. It was my first homestay and the experience was fantastic. It  just feels like homely. The property is just class and perfectly maintained. The facilities are up to the mark. The natural beauty is just not outside the property but it's also inside. The owner of this property has done amazing work to maintain this property. The two staff here are just helpful and so good.They always have a smile on their face. I just recommend all those who looking for this property, to come here and enjoy your stay. PERFECT STAY.

HOMESTAY AT ITS BEST

Our family of 5 occupied 3 rooms of the homestay for 2 nights and 3 days. It was a heavenly experience in Dehradun. The rooms were big with all amenities with common dining space with spiral staircase... Courtyard and adjacent small garden with various types of sitting arrangements including a comfortable swing to laze out with a book the whole day, the  homely yet super tasty food in perfectly laid out table will keep you coming back to this place again and again.

Excellent homestay with beauty and old world charm

We were looking for a beautiful home for a short family break, and Gorayya Home looked like the perfect place. 
It really is a lovely property. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the entire home is a delight to be in. 
Our 2 families booked 2 rooms, we were 4 adults and 3 small children, aged 3yrs, 6yrs and 6 1/2 years. 
The property is really beautiful, with terraces at different levels and small gardens and bird houses...all that.
The staff of 2 boys, one cook and one helper were extremely polite and helpful. They always had a smile on their faces.
We had the perfect holiday here, and would have loved to come back for more.....but sadly it is not to be.
On our checkout we had the most horrible experience.
The host, who from the beginning looked very uncomfortable having guests in his home gave us a bill that shocked us. 
He had offered to give us 2 rooms for 2 nights for the price is Rs.14000. At that time i asked him if he could put an extra mattress in my room as we were four of us, 2 adults and 2 kids. He agreed, and the price was fixed at 14000. But when we got the bill he added 1400 extra for the mattress, saying this was the norm in the hotel industry.
Next. I had requested him the use of the kitchen as i love to cook, he said ok, but his staff would help me. Once again, he charged us 1000 for the use of the kitchen, and this was just for making 2 dishes, 1 on each night. Thats like 500 rupees just to make a dish. Seems he wanted to recover the cost of the dinners he would have sold us.
Next. We were charged 200 rupees for a childs breakfast. The child had 1 fried egg and 2 slices of bread, the bread was not even from his stores, we had bought the bread, so we were basically being charged 200 for 1 fried egg....wow!!! 
The property charges rupees 300 for one dinner. That is ok for an adult, not for a child. All the 3 children had a small bowl of rice and daal each, that does not justify the price of 300 rupees.
I think when u say breakfast is included in the tariff, doesn't it include tea or coffee? Well, we were charged extra for the teas. 
Oh...and let me not forget, my 3 year old son, while coloring, got some water color on to a pillow cover, which my wife washed and cleaned completely.....for that the gentleman charged us 100 rupees.

So when we got the heavily inflated bill we were all shocked. I asked for the host( as he had so kindly sent the bill to us thru his cook and didn't want to face us).
I asked him to review the points of the bill which we did not agree with, the extra 1400 for mattress when he had already fixed the cost for the rooms, and the 1000 service charge, which was for the use of the kitchen...etc.
He didn't take to it very kindly.. infact he was quite adamant that we pay for the use of the kitchen. 1000 rupees for making 2 dishes? One dish was a meat curry on one night and the other night was a spaghetti bolognese. So just to make them (the ingredients were mine) i was being asked to pay 1000 rupees. 
I am an avid traveler, so is my wife and our friends who were there with us. We have stayed in all sorts of properties, from high end hotels to tents, and vilage homes, and homestays. I am also a chef and i run my own bed and breakfast. This is the first time we have had such an experience. 
Hospitality is a very specialized industry. And specially in smaller properties. The attitude of the host makes all the difference. In this case our host was neither welcoming, nor was he doing anything to make his guests comfortable. To us it seems that he is trying to fleece his guests to make a quick buck. 
I feel sad to write this review, as this was a beautiful property, and we did enjoy ourselves, but the host spoiled it for us. 
I know that this review may not make a difference to you sir, because you will get on the defensive and try to justify yourself. But you have lost some guests who would have been visiting you often, as well as other friends of ours whom we will advise not to visit you.

Beautiful property but terrible experience

I cannot believe how much I enjoyed Gorraya .  It is located in a very quiet part of Dehradun and when I stayed there I was able to walk around enjoying the mountainview surrounding this beautiful homestay.  The room was very well decorated; the price was reasonable; the hosts all eager to please; the food in house was inexpensive and really good.  If I could rate this place, I would rate it a 6 star accommodation.  I think it is better than any impersonal big hotel.

Truly a beautiful place

I needed a few days of solitude in the midst of nature and quiet. I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at the home stay. The first floor was so well appointed and well maintained with large bedroom, living room, nice balcony, outdoor seating and garden.  The food was like that of home, although with limited options. The place is quiet; one can hear the sound of water flowing down a brook, not so distant. Spending the relaxed hours reading one's favourite book over a cup of coffee in this beautiful surrounding rejuvenates the tired body and mind.

Home away from home!

Great place to stay with good garden and good rooms.Huge library with good staff.Although only negative is that there are less snacks options.Still all other stuff was good so please try once.Overall go for it.
