Ambience of the guest house is nice, gives the feel of living in Tamil Nadu. Lobby is beautifully decorated every morning. Rooms are small though and lighting is not good inside room. Location is good as beach is at walkable distance and lot of eateries around.

Heritage stay

Don't be fooled by the photos. The room is small and old. Cleaness is a issue. We killed at least 4 roaches in our room is less than 2 days. The sheets are very worn out and full of stains. We had to keep all our luggage closed for fear of roaches coming in. In our check out the night receptionist insistently demanded tip and after we gave it he insisted it was too little and demanded more even though we carried our own bags, he basically did noting for us. Would not recommend it.

Roaches, roaches, roaches

The location was good and each and every place was easily accessible. The rooms were okay. not much big and not even small. The restroom was very tiny and not spacious enough. The interior area was nice and arranged well to give it a feel of traditional houses. The lovely part is they are petting a dog who was too playful and friendly with the guests. 
One suggestion for them is to provide white lights inside the room. the dim lights may be power saving but not comfortable. WiFi was provided for free but room service should be more active. Overall it is a good stay with nice time in the open terrace in the evening.

Relax stay

Chettinad style building though not a big mansion. Apparently residential house converted into a hotel. Well maintained. Courteous staff. Disadvantage is it lacks a restaurant. Staff may fetch food from nearby hotels, which was not tried by me. Very close to railway station. 24 hour check-out possible at a little more than per day tariff. However washrooms attached to single bed rooms lack escape route for smells and odours.

Reasonably cheap stay at Pondicherry

I stayed in Ram Guest House for five nights. It was conveniently located close to the Beach and the White Town but not too close to the hussle and bussle. The service was friendly and good, and there was flexibility with the breakfast. An added bonus was the second floor terrace that provided a relief from the day's heat. The wifi was occasionally erratic but otherwise ok.  

Good guest house in Pondy

We were 5 families stayed at Ram guest house. Service was very good and the staff was friendly. We also extended our stay for one day which they have accepted. Location is very good and access to beach or local shopping. We were completed happy with the stay and service.

Best place to stay for less price

We have chosen this guest house as I wanted single room for family of four. During Christmas vacation, I got this room very cheap as compared to other hotels/ guest houses. There was warm welcome at the reception. No welcome drink. Room was not ready when we reached to the guest house, in spite of the fact that hotel manager knew that we are coming. We had to wait in the lobby for about 15 minutes. It was frustrating as we had reached after a long journey from Delhi and wanted immediate bed rest. Hotel has given has two bottles of packaged drinking water. Tea / lunch are not available. We had to go out for the same. It was another frustrating experience for us. Morning tea/Breakfast was also not available. In fact this guest house provides kitchen facility and you can cook your own tea / coffee or food. Room was clean, but there were lot of mosquitoes. Repellent did not work. Bathroom was okay types. It could have been more clean and stains free. Shower head was blocked. There was an old style TV kept on the top of almirah with 1 or 2 English channels. It was quite difficult to see TV on that height. We could not use almirah, as it was stinking. There were no tables in the room, so you have to keep your luggage on the floor. There was only one chair provided in the room of four.Location is great advantage for this guest house. Beach and restaurants are nearby. You can also get auto rickshaw easily. Tea / fruit juice shops are adjacent. Looking in to the rent of the room, I would say it is value for money when you want to spend whole day out of the hotel.

Value for Money

Simple rooms. Front office people are helpful.  When you get it for 1000 Rs.then only its worth. We stayed here for 1800 non ac not at worth. you can book room along with food here. 
Room service is good.
