We have stayed in many places over the decades since first visiting Fort Kochi in 1994 (when we stayed in the old PWD which was allowed back then). We often return to Fort Kochi and stay for many weeks at a time. So I know what I'm talking about in this review.

Good Karma is an excellent choice for accommodation in Fort Kochi, unless you can afford to travel at the uber-luxury level. Good karma has quite reasonably priced rooms. They are not huge, but many, especially in the new building, are perfectly roomy enough. Most of the competition around the area have much smaller rooms. Cleanliness is well attended to - we had no issues with this aspect of any rooms we saw as they became available.

Location is excellent - just far enough to get some exercise, and near enough to walk into the main area of town along raintree shaded roads, which on the whole remain quiet, after so many decades (except on Sundays and holidays - give them a break). Ridesdale Branch road is a good area, and since Vintage Inn closed down, there are precious few homestays on this road. The great advantage, is that not only can one walk easily into town, but also to the local junction, Kannumpuram, which is a great place to get supplies not available at Princess Street general stores.

The staff are a good resource for those who fly in here intending visit the more famous tourist places in Kerala. Anoop and Shams have excellent connections to help with transport and accommodations at all the standard places tourists want to visit on short trips to Kerala, for reasonable costs. And I must add that their driver is an intelligent and 'safe-pair-of-hand- at the wheel' driver... most important these days. Otherwise, I found all staff, especially Christi, very attentive, friendly and helpful, whatever the requirements. They can also help with accommodation at their beach-side places at Vakala and another (this is excellent for European and Indian tourists who want a 'holiday-at-the-beach' experience... not so much for Australians who have the best beaches in the world).

Those looking to stay a little longer, to simply 'be in' this delightful heritage town, try to get a room with balcony. They face the road, but that was not a problem for sleep and you can close the doors with AC. We were never awakened by the usual disturbances of church-temple-mosque calls in the early hours, the cacophony of crows, road traffic (this subsides during the night anyway), and baby wailings (seems to be reduced at present). Although during the day, the ubiquitous home-improvement noises that bedevil all of India these days, does go on, and yet I didn't find it too annoying. But even the back facing rooms were good value, although a few rooms have those twin-single-adjoined beds which are a wonderful king-sized pleasure... You'd need to check which rooms have these, but the standard double bed rooms are perfectly sufficient.

Most importantly, there is a great vibe at Good Karma - well designed and friendly atmosphere.



Top place to stay in Fort Kochi!

The room is small and neat,but the premises was surrounded by fried and bad massage oil of disgusting smell and oil on floor steps wall  bed sheets pillows everywhere oily ,the place was not gave hotel or home stay feel like a medicine factory.Ruined my stay and met allergic issues through this place .

We loved the place

· I loved the experience and the people at this homestay. Very simple accommodations. Quiet at night, very peaceful slept like a dream on the bed. Super comfortable! The room is sparse and spotless, dry ... Which in a rainy season is hard to achieve. I had an aircon room and I'm a baby about heat so it was helpful although the ceiling fan was amazing ...so fast and powerful many nights i didn't need the A/C. Anoob, Marion , Karen , every person there were helpful and kind. Guests were lovely if you wanted to chat them up you could but there was also personal space. Location is excellent and on a quiet safe street. ( Although to be honest I found all the streets safe!). Breakfast is simple and delish... tea or coffee...fresh fruit, eggs your way, toast , cereal or curry whatever you have it will be fresh and perfect. They arranged taxis for me when I needed to go farther than town and hooked me up with Jaleel their trusted tuk tuk driver the rest of the time. I walked around the first two days and then let Jaleel show me the sites on the third... I am so glad I did this, you cover triple the ground in a day see the sites and he takes you to places you may not walk into alone. He knew I wanted to eat local food and got me into some small places with excellent food ... An experience I would not trade for anything. Many of the other drivers are a little more pushy and it was nice to go with a driver that is being taken care of by the good karma family... By the end of the stay it felt like home and could not think why I would leave! It is important to remember this is not a hotel ...somewhere between a hostel and a bnb lies great no nonsense hospitality with real people who care about you as an individual not a corporate client. Give your money to these homestays ...it's the local way...and what you give you get back forever.

Excellent! Great location, Staff goes the extra mile.

We really enjoyed our stay at Good Karma! Marion and Anoob were very welcoming, friendly and helpful - they linked us in with other guests also travelling on to Munnar to make arrangements together. Good Karma is in a perfect location for exploring Fort Kochi, near to the Kathakali centre and to great restaurants. There's also a lovely terrace area where we could spend time with the other guests, whilst our room felt nice and private and quiet. Overall, wonderful!

Lovely stay in a great location

One of the best budget places to stay in Fort Kochi. The rooms are super clean,tastefully decorated and the showers actually have real hot water - this is not always the case in other home stays!!!
Marion and Anoob are incredibly friendly and welcoming and have created a place with a warm relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely recommend it to anyone spending some time in Fort Kochi.

Chilled and relaxed

The Good Karma Inn is a very nice and cosy B&B with great rooms with big windows facig the wonderful view of the Kachemak bay its glaciers and mountains. The owner Michael was very helpful in advising about the sights to see and hike in around the bay. He helped us to manage the situation of wild fire we could not get to next place. We are very grateful for that.

Nice and easy stay

We really enjoyed our stay for 3 nights and even came back for 1 night on our way to Trivandrum. Shyam was so helpful as we had to book train tickets, taxis etc and he helped us do everything. You must do one of his cooking classes because the food is amazing! His place to centrally located so it's easy to walk to shops, book store, fishing boats, cafes etc The rooms were clean, comfortable and spacious. We can highly recommend staying here!
