Anil and his wife Rhika are charming hosts, of this quiet guesthouse in any otherwise busy and noisy town. It's about 15 minutes into the dusty centre, and less by two wheeler. Rhika is a great cook who delivers tasty and not pricey food. The rooms are clean, comfortable and in a green semi rural setting.  Anil is informative, speaks excellent English and can transport you if needed. Highly recommended for budget travellers.  

Brilliant Bohdgaya guesthouse

The best part of Suma Guesthouse is certainly Anil (the owner). He made me feel very comfortable and safe during my stay, which is very important as a solo traveller. He picked me up from the bus station in the early hours of the morning, and dropped me off at the train station on the night of my departure. He even went so far as to check-in with me to ensure I made it to my next destination safely. I enjoyed chatting with him over breakfast and dinner cooked by his lovely wife. The guesthouse is very clean and the rooms are spacious. It is in a good location, close enough to the main road to walk to town but far enough that the noise and chaos of the traffic cannot reach it. I would recommend Suma Guesthouse, especially to solo travelers who want to feel that they are accounted for in an unfamiliar town.

The Most Helpful Owner

Anil and his family welcomed us and made us feel a part of their family. 

Anil's wife prepared for us warm, colorful and entirely satisfying vegetarian meals with vegetables grown in their backyard and rooftop garden. There was purified water available from their purifying any time we wanted or needed it.

The room was very clean and had it's own private balcony where I could sit and enjoy the late morning, or afternoon sun. You also have access to the rooftop which overlooks the surrounding neighborhood and is a great place to dry your clothes, relax, meditate, or do yoga. 

The location was perfect for us. It was about a fifteen minute walk to 'downtown' Bodhgaya with the Mahabodhi Temple, The Great Buddha Statue and the many wonderful temples. The building is located about a five minute walk from the main road which provides quiet from the bustle. If you do want to explore the bustle, we found a lovely restaurant with purified water salads called the Be Happy Cafe.

Anil was such a thoughtful listenner and was able to arrange a private daytrip based on our interests. We experienced the Pragbodhi Caves, Rajgir and Nalanda.

It wouldn't be overstating to say that the experience staying at Suma Guest House left a permanent positive impact on my heart and life. I miss the warm and open conversations with Anil. 

If you are seeking a clean, quiet and safe place to be a base to experience the magic of Bodhgaya, then you would be missing out by not staying at The Suma Guest House.

Home stay

We recently stayed at Suma Guest House with our two teenage sons and had a wonderful time. Anil and his wife Rekha were very warm and welcoming. The rooms were clean with adjoining bathrooms. Suma Guest House is very close to the sites we wanted to visit: Mahabodhi Temple, Giant Buddha Statue and other temples such as the Thai Temple and Karmapa Temple. You can walk to these or get a Tuk Tuk. Anil also arranged a driver to take us to Mahakhala Cave and Vulture Peak mountain. 
Rekha’s cooking is fresh and delicious. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel every day and were made to feel like part of the family. We would definitely stay there again!

Family Friendly

Suma Guesthouse is the best choice. Mr. Anil and his wife were very friendly and helpfull. They gave us lots of good advice and even arranged a dayexcursion to the Mahakala Cave, the Stupa Pagoda in Rajgir and the ruins of Nalanda.
The room and bathroom were both clean and we even had a balcony.
We had all our meals in the familykitchen where the lady of the house cooked everything with fresh vegetables. 
Suma Guesthouse is near all the monasteries in Bodhgaya. It was only a 20 minutes walk. When we return to Bodhgaya we will be staying in Suma Guesthouse again and we can certainly recommend it.
