We spent a night here while traveling around Germany. The hotel is located just below Rothenburg centre and it is on a stunning location with a beautiful view of its park and a stream below. Parking areas are easy to find and we even managed to get a charging point on the one below at the stream (only a socket, still good enough).
We had to wait a bit on the reception but otherwise service was good. Breakfast was average German, nothing special but okay. 
Room itself was spacious and very interesting since this is a castle with built in box as a bathroom with a low ceiling which I did not like much. The whole castle was almost empty since we were there in January giving it a somewhat “creepy” feeling. 
There is an exit close to the coty but only main entrance was doable. Nevertheless, the stay there was quite pleasant in the end so worth a visit if you  have the opportunity.

Beautiful location, interesting interior

This property is stunning, gorgeous, beautiful, peaceful.  We loved staying in a "castle".  The interior is breathtaking.  The exterior is lovely and peaceful.  The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful.  The little town of Rothenburg, with all its cute shops, was just a very short walk away.  To anyone traveling to Germany, I highly suggest you stay here.   Such a calm stay.

Stunning!!!

Lovely looking hotel but not easy to find. We went round in circles until we found someone to guide us. Reception is entered on one level and was the only entrance to the hotel and yet there were many exits. We had a room on the 7th floor which is reached by lift, you can exit the hotel at that level and then you at the hundreds of steps you have to go up to reach the town. A real nightmare! Worst part is that when you return down all those steps, you can’t get back in at level 7 so you have go down 4 more levels to enter the hotel. If you can exit, why can’t you enter? So very strange.
Corridors were huge and beautiful ornate windows. The room was huge with a box inside for a shower room. It was some religious hotel which we hadn’t realised. There was a cross above the bed which we tried to remove but it was glued on. First time ever we’ve had a religious symbol in a hotel forced on us. Put it up when you have your religious groups staying but remove for hotel guests! It should be a choice. It is not our religion. 
Breakfast was a buffet but no cooked food. 
Not a hotel we’d choose again as the photos showed it in the town and infact it was outside the walls and down a long long way.

A few issues

This is a very unique property! A big old beautiful mansion that’s in the woods, and on the river, yet a 5 minute walk to the old town. The staff was friendly, there is a self service bar that has a fire seating area, and the grounds are just gorgeous. The rate was reasonable as well. The room itself was pretty basic (at least the single room was), but it was clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay again if I came back.

Awesome!

Hard to put a finger on this hotel, but it has a feeling of intrigue. Looks like an old castle but not quite sure of its history. Anyway one of our more memorable hotels in the 4 month visit to UK/Europe.
Our room was excellent & clean, breakfast also good.
Hotel has nearly direct access into the old city gate, bit of a climb though.
Would defiantly recommend a stay here

Something About this Hotel

We stayed here for one night in the summer. It was a bit difficult to find - the signage could be improved...once we realised we were at the right place check-in etc. went smoothly. The building itself is very impressive, there are quite a few levels and it's interesting to have a wander round and appreciate it's quirkiness. 

Our room was very big, although the bathroom was very small. The rooms had obviously been converted so it was almost as if the bathroom was in what used to be a cupboard - it served it's purpose anyway so wasn't a massive issue. There was quite a good selection at breakfast. We liked that there were drinks available to purchase from kitchen/lounge areas 24/7 - you could help yourself and just write down what you had taken.

The walk into town from here is very easy if you don't mind steps, it takes about 5 minutes to reach the walls. This is certainly different to most places we've stayed but we would come back!

Different in a good way!

Our room was large, with a nice hardwood floor- suggest you bring slippers if staying during fall or winter months (the radiators work fine but it is not floor heating). The very clean bathroom in the room is small, but it was nice to have a couch and table with 2 chairs in the room. The staff were very friendly, and I hope to return with a group of people for a retreat. We did not miss having a TV in the room, but appreciated the wifi. There was a TV room on our floor as well as a social visiting room down the hall (lounge area), which a retreat group used. We didn't mind the long flight of outdoor stairs between the building and the town, and chose not to drive up the hill and then search for parking in town. Breakfast was plentiful, with whole eggs (European style), a nice assortment of rolls, local honey, and cold cuts, along with cereal, fruit, and a variety of milk/lactose free, coffee, tea, etc. After breakfast, one of the staff members told us we could look around at the public rooms, which included a beautiful large event room and a chapel. A peaceful wooded environment with a calm, unique interior and welcoming people. Our GPS first sent us way down into the valley, and then we drove up the long driveway to get to the main door, half-way up the hill. There is another vehicle entrance near the top of the hill, but I don't know how to explain it for your arrival- we didn't notice a sign at the top of the hill, but there may have been one.
