Ideal stopover from Caen ferry to Brittany. Excellent facilities in the grounds of a former chateau. We parked in an orchard near the swimming pool and used its sanitary facilities which were excellent. Really good bar with terrace. Easy journey to Bayeux and the Normandy beaches. Easy access onto the road to Brittany.

We have just returned from a week @ Chateau de Martragny... what an absolute delight!

A relaxed atmosphere in a beautiful setting. Great amenities for kids and adults alike. The swimming pool and area are beautiful - and what a backdrop!

Lots of people seemed to stay 'en route' to somewhere else - we stayed for a week and didn't tire of the campsite. Days out at Arromanche, Asnelles, Bayeux, Honfleur and Deauville made the trip even more memorable. But the best bit was always getting back to the campsite and relaxing in the lovely surroundings.

Even a storm and a couple of flooded tents (entirely our fault!) didn't dampen our spirits. The 'bailing out' just added to the adventure ...

Talking of water, the shower block was modern, clean and always with hot water and lots of loo roll - the important things! 

A few tips:
- Think about where you would like your pitch - would ask for a pitch near the chateau/pool, not on the driveway (although you probably have more space here)
- Make sure you are at the well-stocked shop 08:55 for when it opens at 09:00 to get your pick of the delicious pastries and baguettes
- The restaurant opens at 5pm - it goes get busy so arrive early if you need to get kids to bed  - but we were in no rush and enjoyed the tasty meals (moules and burgers highly recommended - the pizzas were also a big hit!) - and the waitress, Cecile(?) is an absolute joy and  runs around ensuring everyone is kept happy!
- Adults - if you want a quiet swim, make sure you go for an early morning dip when the pool opens @ 9am and it is super quiet and heavenly in the morning sunshine - until the kids descend around 10am! (it is heated to about 23-24 degrees, slightly chilling when you first get in but glorious when you get going - and worth the initial brrrrr ....)

A fabulous week with friends chez Chateau de Martragny

Quiet and beautifully set in the grounds of a small chateau.   Great amenities. Restaurant good and reasonably priced.  Small  pool (apparently heated but it was chilly!) And room to sit around it.  We arrived before uk schools finished so was quiet.  Quaint little shop with all essentials including croissants and baguettes fresh every morning 😊.  Very friendly staff team.  Highly recommended 

Quiet friendly site 

Nice château, some pitches have hedging to provide privacy but the majority did not so spacing between pitches is a bit tight. A new facilitis block and another not so new but clean. Good shop and excellent restaurant that is run by a humorous manager.

A bit of French heritage

We stayed for 7 days to visit the D-Day beaches and memorials. 
The location is perfect. 30 minutes from the ferry at Caen and no more than 30 minutes from any of the beaches and museums etc.  Motorhomers, if you don't want to take you van out every day then you definitely need a car.  
This is a very French campsite, quirky in some ways but lovely. 
The pitches are a good size and ours were relatively flat and very well maintained as was the whole place. We were able to get on to our pitches at 09.00 in the morning after arriving on the overnight ferry and you can park how you want with very few rules.  
The site is beautifully quiet and peaceful and has a very good shop (fresh bread and croissants), a laundry room  and restaurant/bar which sold good food and beer at reasonable prices. There is also a fishing lake and small swimming pool.  
The showers were hot, clean and well maintained. Everything worked as it should.    
The staff and service was excellent. 
Highly recommended!

Lovely Site, Great Location, Authentic.

We have stayed here once to camp and on 2 occasions within the lodge tents. Lovely location for family camping, with good shower/toilet facilities, space to play and relax, outdoor pool, tennis court and space for football or badminton.  A lovely shop situated in the square yard of the chateau, selling a small but useful range of products.  We enjoyed picking up fresh bread and pastries in the morning!

The on-site restaurant is lovely, and it’s really good being able to relax at a restaurant, and walk back to the accommodation without having to drive out.  Bayeux is close by - we took a family bike ride on one occasion. 

Very well situated for visiting the Normandy D-day landing beaches.  Very easy to reach location if coming across from UK on the ferry to Caen - 30 minute drive from the ferry port.

Very friendly & welcoming hosts, who are happy to help out with any issues.  Would definitely recommend it, and would like to visit again one day, and perhaps stay within the chateau.

Lovely family location as a holiday in itself or as a stop off

Family room was OK not well equipped double and single bed (family room) but had to pay extra for the extra bed, no head boards just against the wall and the pillows were cushions with no covers and due to the floor the beds moved very easily and would need to straighten them up and push them back against the wall. Wood floor and had to go up steps to enter the bathroom, bath was OK but the plug had to be put in and pressed down while turning the knob to lower it in place but let water out quite quickly, shower was the type off the taps but had no where to hang it so was only able to use it hand held also there was no shower screen of any type. Only two sockets for power in the room and one in the bathroom. One wardrobe with one high shelf and a hanging rail. No facilitates such as a kettle or TV and the free WIFI was very poor in fact difficult to get a signal and dropped out regularly. Entry to the chateaux was via a keypad lock but the door did not close so if the person did not close it properly it stayed open, door lock were in "period" so a very basic and not very secure one with the old style key that I would not have been surprised to find it was the same as others. Staircase is obviously old and the steps lean ( or slope) from the wall giving it an insecure feel the banister was also very flimsy and moved to the touch. During one "tour" of the building guests asked about some of the items that were brought out to be viewed, some of which we had already looked at as they were in the draws of furniture in the entrance hall, this contained ammunition and on inspection some of these were still live after the tour had finished I asked the person who took it if anyone had commented about the ammunition being still live the reply was that there were only a few bullets that were live !!!
Breakfast was good and the service was very good. Housekeeping if there was any made no difference in the rooms in fact if you were in need of say loo roll you needed to pick more up from a  box in the hall way which was filled daily! Parking for the rooms was limited to about 2-3 cars worth but one of these was set aside for the flat to park their vehicle in. Restaurant the waitress and yes there was just one was running around all night and did a very good job dealing with the guests as she was on her own. The food was generally good but not of the best quality on the last night my son had a steak which was about 1/4 gristle which could not be eaten when this was pointed out, which was after we had finished, we could not say anything before as the waitress was running around and was difficult to get hold of, on pointing this out (the gristle was on the plate and was as I said about 1/4 of the "meat") the reply we had was OK! and nothing else not even a sorry about that. The bar man was friendly but a shame he was wearing the same t-shirt of 3 days unless that is that he owns 3 of the same Star wars millennium falcon shirt, be aware if you order water, tap water that is it comes in a bottle that we saw being filled from the tap and it costs 3 Euros and evening meal of main and dessert for 5 of us come to about 109 Euros per night. If camping there are sinks for washing utensils and a laundry on site but you need tokens from the shop. The shop was. The shop was very basic but OK the fruit whirls however are very good. There are two pools but I did not use them while there. 
The house is a very nice one full of charm but as a place to stay it needs basic updates to make it to a standard you would expect from the price.
All in all I would say it was a basic place to stay with the basics available but could benefit greatly from having some money spent on it to improve the rooms, beds, bathroom facilities, availability of power outputs, more than one chair in a family room would be a good idea to save having to sit on the beds and public areas as well as the basic security.

Bike tour with the family

Spent a couple on nights in our VW camper in the grounds of this chateau. Quiet pitches near the old walls in the orchard. Good on site shop, bar and bistro. Lovely pool for a dip after a hot cycle ride. Cycle hire arranged by reception and bikes delivered from Bayeux. Lovely local countryside and visited Bayeaux and a local Ciderie!

Camping in the Chateau grounds

Stayed with our friends. Overall we loved it, great pitches, nice restaurant however there are a few negatives although it wouldn’t put us off staying again.
1. Pool way too small for amount of guests.
2. Not nearly enough showers
3. Shower and toilets really not clean, was tempted to ask for a bucket of bleach.
4. Bayeux itself is really beautiful but be sure to book any restaurants in advance.

Like I’ve said we’d definitely stay again, great staff and location but cleaning must be improved. 

Camping with friends

This was the first of our stops on a 6 week tour of Europe. Having arrived late and stressed, we were greeted with a beautiful view and a chilled campsite. A note on the door told us where our pitch was.

The restaurant and bar was high quality, but simple. The showers spotless and the shop had perfect provisions.

Overall a perfect start/end of trip location before getting the ferry.
