The middle aged lady at reception was the rudest person… I’d prepaid in full weeks before arrival, but she demanded payment on arrival and continually refused to believe I’d already paid, even when I presented her with proof of payment on my bank transactions, on Booking.com, and on email confirmation of payment from the hotel. Eventually, after she’d been insulting (thinking I’d not understand the French insults, but “idiote” is pretty transparent), rude and quite aggressive, she realised she was in the wrong and I was right… but yet no apology, no acknowledgement, just continuing bad attitude. She was absolutely abominable and disgusting. The worst imaginable employee. Fire her.

The hotel itself has a good location but is beyond basic, and the corridors and staircase were filthy.

Extremely basic, decently located, poor experience

Great location but staircase so narrow with no help taking suitcases to 5th floor on the tight spiral staircase. We were concerned about fire escape access.
Close to bridges for accessing the old town and good eateries close by.
Reception was helpful calling taxis and offering us morning coffee.

Great location but basic

1 night in mid-December. Great location - walking distance to all attractions of Lyon. Easy to get there from Perrache by metro. Fast and friendly check-in. Simple and convenient room. Comfy bed. Flatscreen-TV. Great Wi-Fi. Budget friendly.

No elevator, no air conditioning, toilet is almost too small to even sit on. Room was dirty and tiny. Staff were helpful but it didn’t make the experience any more enjoyable. Only 1 PowerPoint in the room and PowerPoint as well as light switches were in really odd places. There are other places you can stay that are cheaper that offer much better accomodation. I wouldn’t go back.

Not so cheap but nasty

The best thing about this hotel is the central location to almost every touristic hotspot of the beautiful city of Lyon. 

It is located almost next to the metro station "Cordeliers" and you are never far from the main metro stations with all the right connections. 

Another great thing is that there are very good local restaurants in the same neighbourhood, just down the street. Same for convenience stores and shopping boutiques.

It is also the only hotel to my knowledge where you can book a room for three people (not every traveller is a businessman or a couple).

Now the negative...
The staircase is narrow and the steps are so short around the 4th floor that you have to tiptoe your way up or down. It is a left-handed spiral staircase, so if you have disabilities on the left side, climbing is less safe. 
If you have to book here despite the staircase, then try your best to book the lower floor rooms.

The neighbourhood can be noisy on the weekend because there are a couple of night clubs around. 

There is no air conditioning. So booking in the hottest part of summer might not be the best idea.

The bathroom can feel cramped. Oversized people will definitely have a miserable time there. It feels otherwise clean. 

Overall, it is a place I would book again for a short visit on the cheap (but not during a heat wave). 

Good location, but no lift and challenging stairs

This place is horrible, has no elevator and its narrow and difficult stairs are dangerous when you are carrying your luggage; it has very small room with no space to place your stuff or a rack where to place your suitcase or hang your clothes, no refrigerator in the room ( my friend is diabetic and didn't have where to keep her insulin).  A very small and uncomfortable bathroom,  very difficult  to enter into the shower because  the space between the bathroom sink and the shower is extremely narrow and once you are inside the shower scarcely you can move without striking your elbows against the walls. The bathroom hasn't  hair dryer not even courtesy soap and shampoo. The breakfast is not included and it is very expensive, I was charged 3 euros for a tiny cup of coffee (no refill). I do not recommend this place not even to my worst enemy!!!

The worst hotel

It's a small and basic hotel (it looks more like a Motel). Our room and bathroom were clean, but this last one was extremely small, a big deal to use the shower and then dry off itself. Staff were nice and helpful. Location is the better about choose this place, you can't find any other hotel cheaper and close to the city highlights. No A/C in the rooms. Walls seem to be thin because you could listen any activity in the corridor.

While staying in the hotel I realised that I had a Polo Shirt stolen during the stay. While checking out I duly informed the hotel who enquired with the cleaning staff who denied any responsibility and therefore was told there was nothing that could be done. On reaching the airport I then discovered that a set of headphones and some cash had also been taken. This was worse as it confirmed that somebody had been through my luggage as these items were hidden. Subsequent correspondence to  the hotel has resulted with them declining to accept liability or to offer any  compensation. There are no security safes in the rooms and therefore it is not possible to secure any high value items hence this review to warn other guests.
