We stayed one night before we went to catch the shuttle the next day and it was superb.  We were warmly welcomed and settled into our beautifully decorated Bombay suite (living room, en suite bathroom with fabulous big bath, bedroom with en suite toilet).  We parked right outside the hotel which, although so close to the centre of Calais, was peaceful and quiet.  I enjoyed relaxing on the couch watching the TV (found an English channel showing Midsomer Murders) and was happy to make use of the kettle (speciality tea and coffee supplied) before we had our evening meal.

In the morning, after a comfortable night, we were welcomed in the breakfast room and given a choice of breakfast items.  We chose croissants and hot chocolate (delicious) and there was also a further choice of breakfast items such as yogurt, fruit, jams, Nutella.

Our host was warm and welcoming and always had a smile on her pretty face.  She was readily available to help at all times.  

I particularly enjoyed the peaceful ambience throughout the entire hotel and I thoroughly recommend it to everyone.  I just hope it isn't fully booked the next time we want to stay there!!!



Thoroughly Recommended

No doubt, the owners poured their harts and souls into decorating this hotel. The three rooms are decorated in Marrocan, Indian and Chinese style and are very charming. I did have some problems with the fact that our room (Chinese) was very, very dark (I'm sure if i could have located the switches, I could have turned on more lights, but I do like it that there is a single switch for that). The bathroom was fitted with a large bath, which was in itself romantic, but I gather many people will not use that and take a shower instead. That was very difficult in this situation. The bed was located under the windows, which was a little impractical since during our stay we had a storm and we had to close the windows because of that, but we did not like to sleep in a room with closed windows. Finally I urge the owners to make sure there are spare pillows in the room: the single flat pillow was too thin, so I had trouble sleeping (yes, I could have asked, but I realised is too late). Breakfast was good.

Charming, but some flaws

It's a fine line between kitsch and bad taste, between theme park and thematically enthralling. Nuit d'Ailleurs is firmly in the fantastic, fun and brilliantly bonkers camp, and camp too in the other sense. 

Nicely position a few minutes from the restaurants and shops in a quiet back street this is a truly one-off B and B that has enthusiastically embraced its brief to be a whistle stop tour of the world's bedrooms.

We stayed in the Indian Bombay suite  - a generous space with a bedroom, sitting room and ensuite loo and separate ensuite bathroom. It's colourful, cheery and comfy. And so much fun. Having visited India it is India on steroids but I simply cannot fault the exuberance and details. Gold tiles, purple walls, tented ceilings, elephants Buddhas - a joy.

We had a good nights sleep in a good bed with thematically perfect bedding and woke up to a breakfast grounded in the fine French tradition of croissants and coffee from bowls.'Earth' music played in the background adding a further layer of tranquility and well being. We haven't loved a room so much ever, certainly not as this price.

This is how you do B and B - with style and wit!

This little B&B is a gem. It has to be the best place to stay in Calais.
Only four rooms, so we were lucky to get the Bombay Suite and since we both grew up there we were amazed at how cleverly Sandrine (the owner) had decorated the place. The hotel is near the car ferry. There is garage parking, but you must book this. Plenty of restaurants nearby.
A delightful visit and I wouldn’t book anywhere else in Calais. Ow that I’ve found this.

Sshhhh... don’t share this with anyone!

Just perfect, first time in this hotel,I came here without booking and got lucky to have a room , friendly service, good prices, good location, very clean and very comfortable bed. Definitely I will come back. Thank you nuit d’Ailleurs.😊
