Mercure should be ashamed to have their name on this hotel.
It is old, filthy, uncomfortable. A cheap hotel with French standards of 1945.
Disgusting.
The hotel  receptionist indicates  a hotel restaurant which is closed, no restaurant nearby and no taxi's at night in Alençon. The night porter Frank was the only asset in this disaster, and was very helpful.

We have stayed at this hotel numerous times en route to the south-west of France but this will be our last visit.  The prices have increased and on this visit we paid €94 for a double room with very small bathroom in need of refurbishment on the second (top) floor.  Over-priced.

Over-priced

The carpet in the room looked Grubby, and was very worn in places. The grout in the bathroom tiles needed cleaning, and the toilet was stained with limescale.I have stayed before, and never had a room in such poor condition.

Some issues over cleanliness

Hotel is a good location, easy to find. Good stopover point. Whole place could do with refurbishing though as everything is looking tired. Better reception this time than on our last stay (a week earlier). Young man on reception was friendly and helpful. Excellent restaurant next door - not cheap but food and service are all you could ask for.

Tired but comfortable

Once again arriving at the Mercure affiant welcome and nice comfortable room.   The facilities were very good plenty of towels available.  
Although there was a courtesy tray that was little milk supplied.  The breakfast was rather disappointing.  Quite some essential items Were missing and during the breakfast setting general supplies were wheeled through the breakfast room.   That did somewhat affect comfort to the guests and myself.  I do trust that on my next visit these shortcomings will be remedied.
