This is a location I will never forget. For little money you have a fantastic and quiet location, in the middle of Finnish Lapland. At check-in, I really had a nice feeling, as the woman who helped us did a tremendous job of showing interest in us as people and in our trip around Scandinavia. My name is Finnish/ Scandinavian, and she knew how to tell us that beautifully. A nice experience at check-in already!

The location is very quiet, in the middle of the woods and along the water. AS a nature fan, it was amazing. A location you can dream about. We were here in September 2022 and there was no ice or snow back then, but I can imagine this is a beautiful location even in the winter months.

The room we had was good enough. The bedroom was private and small, but that was perfect because that's all you need. There were 2 beds and a cabinet. The living area was shared space, as was the bathroom. We shared it with a nice guy from Helsinki, with whom we could talk nicely and share our experiences. It is nice in hostel form to meet other travelers as well.

Parking was easy and communication here was great. Note, that there is no restaurant and breakfast is not possible.

Cute and affordable location in the middle of Finnish Lapland

Just returned from a photography trip in Finland. Travelled from Helsinki to Rovaniemi,  Kittila and Enontekiö. 

For the avid photographer,  make your way straight to Enontekiö where there is minimum light pollution. This is probably the best  place for Aurora sightings.  

You would need a minimum F2.8 wide angle lense with tripod, which is a must and multiple layers of thermal wear as I was shooting with ease at minus 28 degree Celsius. 

1. In Rovaniemi- you can stay in Santa Claus Village which has a shuttle that brings you to town. I took the overnight VR train from Helsinki to Rovaniemi.  

2. Avoid the Apukka Resort which is a photographer's night mare. See my previous post.  Extreme light pollution and not worth the price paid. Beware of the "Apukka shortchange" if you are in Rovaniemi as there are a number of such brightly lighted units and the mgt simply don't even care to reply to my last 2 emails to them. Once bitten twice shy @Apukka. 

3. In Enontekiö - You can stay in Hetan kota Holiday village.  Wonderful hospitality from the couple owners and the frozen lake is located next to the hotel. This is probably the best place in Finland to shoot the Aurora as it has almost zero light pollution. 

4. For my trip to Enontekiö,  we drove there ourselves.  It is a straight road and roads in Finland are generally well maintained.  Pickup the car at Kittila airport and fly from Kittila airport back to Helsinki thereafter.

Watching and shooting the Northern Lights in Finland

My wife and I just spent 3 wonderful nights in this resort. Located right in front of the lake, my wife and I spent time walking on the frozen lake, watching auroras and enjoyed the wonderful hospitality of Titta and her husband. 

Highly recommended if you are looking for a quiet and serene type of holidays.

Wonderful stay at Holiday Village Hetan Kota

Absolutely lovely holiday village, owned by very friendly and welcoming couple. They had also a lovely dog welcoming us! Wiews are amazing! Everything was very neat and clean, maybe recently renovated? Sauna was really nice. Breakfast was good, you got everything you need from there. We had the hiking package, which included a room with own shower & toilet, breakfast, car ride to Hetta-Pallas path start and car transfer to Pallas (while we hiked there). Everything worked great, our car was waiting in Pallas when we arrived there after a long hike :)

It was a pleasure staying here! We traveled by caravan. 
Nice, clean facilities. Everything is new and shiny. The staff is friendly. 
The site is nicely situated by the lake, nice panorama for calm evenings. 


Really nice and quiet!!

We reserved the cottage on a late schedule but luckily there was one available.

After 13 hours drive there were pleasant and warm welcoming. The cottage with sauna was excellent compared to price which included a breakfast, car transfer to Pallas and crossing the lake to the hiking start point.

Everything worked like a charm. Kiitos!

Awesome atmosphere before hiking trip

Beautiful cabins, a hidden treasure in Hetta! We totally enjoyed our 4-night stay with Hetan Kota. Hetan Kota is so beautiful, even in cold winter. 

We stayed in a two-storey cabin just beside the lake. The cabin had four bedrooms, two toilets and a sauna room. Every room had an electric heater. Free wifi was strong and fast. Hetan Kota was just a 10-minute drive to the town centre. One would certainly appreciate the peace and serenity surrounding Hetan Kota.

Titta and Janne were the most hospitable and loveliest hosts. Every meal cooked personally by Titta was delicious (I can't forget the plum curd!)! Even when the weather was icy cold, we felt immense warmth from both Titta and Janne. They are the reason why our trip is so unforgettable. 

We will miss Hetan Kota, we will miss Titta and Janne, and we will miss your friendly pet dog Tollo (I hope I spelt his name right!).

Hidden Treasure!

We stayed in a four room chalet which included a small kitchenette double shower, two toilets and sauna. The accommodation was very cosy, clean and well maintained. Breakfast and dinner was included in our package, the food was traditional Finnish, all of which we thoroughly enjoyed.
There is plenty to do in the area including huskie sled rides, snow shoeing and skiing, but of course the highlight is the northern lights which on a clear night can be seen from the accommodation. All in all, a great stay and wonderful hosts.

Amazing winter wonderland

This must be one of the best kept secrets in Lapland. With a relatively large group of friends, we stayed at Hetan Kota for seven nights. The holiday camps has A-frames and log cabins scattered around in the forest and on the lake front, in an amazingly peaceful location. The manager, Jukka, and his wife are among the best hosts I have ever come across during me travels. They arrange programs, call around to get the best deals, cook super delicious dishes and go out of there way to ensure that the guests are happy. Coffee and tea were available throughout the day, and there is a small library with local books and brochures. 
I stayed at one of the green log cabins further away from the A-frames. It had four double rooms on two floors, a living room, two bathrooms and two separate toilets, and of course its own sauna. The temperature outside dropped to -17 C but inside it was warm and cozy. We got towels but had to provide our soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc. 
There is also a larger sauna building on the lake shore, and Jukka cuts a hole in the ice for those who want to finish off the sauna experience with a dip in the frozen lake.
Public transport is not really available (there was one daily bus to Kittila during our stay,) so to be able to move around you will need your own car. The small town with shops and restaurants is about 5 km away. We went there only once (to buy beer) because the food provided in Hetan Kota was more then enough and we didn't need anything extra.
