With it being my first visit to Cotacachi, I wasn't sure what to expect. However, the staff at Hostal Kimbala were nothing short of fantastic, and gave helpful advice during the length of my stay. The accommodations were very comfortable, clean, friendly, and what you'd expect of family operated business. Their attached cafe has a delicious and filling breakfast and lunch, and their sister restaurant, which is only a few blocks from the hostel, has one of the best dinners I've had in my four visits to Ecuador. Overall, I highly recommend the Kimbala family of food and lodging to all who visit Cotacachi. 

Friendly, comfortable, and incredibly accommodating 

My wife and I stayed only one night in Cotacachi and were very pleased with Hostal Kimbala. It was clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. We would have liked to stay longer. 5 stars. 

Excellent 

I have stayed at Kimbala for four of the last five weeks.  This is my fifth visit to Cotacochi.

I recommend this hostal.  The family that operates this facility is great.  Constant smiles and friendly greetings.  I have also enjoyed breakfast, lunch and dinner.  All were good and the prices reasonable.

Many of the prior reviews are simply unreasonable.  I have stayed at 30+ hostals in Ecuador.  One, maybe two accepted credit cards.  Noisy? Welcome to Ecuador.  Roosters crow at the crack of dawn, dogs bark at night, fireworks are common and they do really like their car alarms here.  This noise level at this hostel is typical and acceptable, especially considering that it is located mid-town.  If you need more luxury stay up the street at La Mirage for $240/night.

Overall this is a reasonably clean, convenient and friendly place to stay, all at a good price.

An overall very good place to stay with a good vibe.

We stopped into this place as part of our tour through the town. The staff was friendly and was very efficient. The food was what you would expect from a tour provided meal. Nothing crazy and everything was safe for everyone.

Restaurant review

The first time we visited the nice clean little restaurant with friends and loved the food. We had the cream of chicken pasta with a grill chicken breast and just loved it and vowed to return. However on our return visit we ordered the same chicken pasta but were so disappointed. We have found that it is not unusual to return to a restaurant that we loved only to be disappointed on a return visit. I doubt that we will try it again.
