Well, what can one say about the Romanoff. It is what it is. We called it the Laff it off. The hotel has a lot of potential to be a great place, however, it is very evident that the owners do not care a wit about it. They collect the money and that's is it. The good: The people who work there are very helpful. Every concern I brought to their attention was immediately addressed. The rooms were cleaned every evening by a very nice elderly couple and we never had any issues with missing items. Ultimately I had a clean place to stay with a refrigerator and stove (although the refrigerator was missing when we first arrived). I didn't find (as was mentioned in a previous review) to be a lot of shady people hanging around. There are some permanent residents who live there as it is an Apart-hotel. These people were quiet and didn't appear "threatening" in anyway. The restaurant that is attached to the Romanoff (not sure if it is owned by same owners) has really good food and very nice service. The pool was nice but we didn't use it. The location is perfect as it is a short walk to anywhere you need to be in Sosua. The bad: The kitchen is not at all stocked. Do not go expecting there to be pots and pans and any dishes etc. You will need to supply these yourself. The beds are like sleeping on rocks, very uncomfortable initially until I got used to it. The rooms are run down but the plumbing worked fine (great water pressure in the shower). Certain times of day you are bound to lose water or power or both but this is Sosua, it happens everywhere. It is very noisy at night and depending on where your room is you will either be regaled with motoconchos, extremely loud music pumped out of passing vehicles, people enjoying the night life etc. If you are not on street side expect to be regaled by the large chicken farm right next door. The roosters go all night long and the hens love to scream. Bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. Over all, the place was cheap and if there is nothing else available I would probably suck it up and stay again as I am in Sosua often. If there is something else I would definitely go with it. The place has a lot of potential; if the owners cared to, they could make it a very beautiful place. The gardens are quite nice and the pool area is quiet and  inviting. I have stayed in many places in different parts of the globe and have paid on average 10 dollars a night. If I only paid 10 dollars a night for this place I would definitely give it a higher rating. However, I paid 38 dollars a night and this just wasn't worth it in my opinion. If the owners wish to charge those types of rates rather than hostel rates then they need to step it up.

Has Potential

Pros: The staff is very helpful, the pool was clean, the restaurant serves good food, the price is right, the rooms are large and the hotel is relatively close to Playa Sosua. Hot water and a/c were working fine.

Cons: After dark,  the people hanging around were a bit seedy. The beds and furnishings are old. There is a sign in the lobby asking patrons not to put condoms in the toilets. This place needs work, but for the price I would consider staying there again....but not with the wife and kids.

Not for family vacation

day 2 they stole all of my money out of my room $1,2080 and it was hid in stove.
the place was dirty. grounds was dirty, pool was so dirty no one went in it.cats were all 
over the place big ones small ones.the owner was always trying to clean pool but never happen

I have no problem saying that the service we received was excellent. The breakfast is good and the prices are reasonable. The people are very friendly. The pool is also nice. Unfortunately, the rooms are HORRIBLE! I stayed here a few years ago but felt really uncomfortable this time around. They need updated big time and I was so scared to lay in the bed and rest my head on the pillow so I wrapped it in one of my beach towels...maybe because my husband saw another guest escorting his prostitute to the gate, eww! He should have never told me!! I know the sheets were clean...just worn. The pull out "bed" looked like it belonged to one of the stray dogs that roam the streets. I felt horrible that my son and nephew had to sleep on it. I think they were even grossed out! Oh, can't forget about the huge cucaracha! Nasty! If you are looking for a cheap place to stay and don't have kids, then by all means, stay here. Maybe you're not as picky as me but don't say I didn't warn you! I love the D.R. My dad is from here and I have family here so I have no prejudices. But...my dad even said that next time we come, we'll be staying somewhere else. I don't think this hotel deserves such a high rating.

Romanoff hotel is a litlle hote but with a lot of experiences... The price is cheap than the others but the rooms are great.. Well some of them but the owners are a litlle bit mad and the pool is so cool cause u have it for your self... Im oretend to come again in summer
