I take every opportunity to praise local hotels in China which REALLY have non-smoking rooms. Why Quan Ji 全季Hotels succeed in this regard is their interior design emphasizes hard surfaces that are easy to clean and won't retain smoke. Add the great location within walking distance to Dongguan Ancient Street 东关老街, it makes for a smart choice in Yangzhou. If you research Yangzhou on the map, central Yangzhou contains parts of old towns historically preserved and which give Yangzhou its charm. This results in many of the big international hotels which require large parcels of land being located in the suburbs. A downside for foreigners is that the English skill of the staff is not great. That's not a factor for me, but it might be for some. But if you can handle the uncertainty of traveling on your own in a foreign country, you'll be fine.
