Like other JinJiang Inns, this hotel is basic but with very clean rooms, and was a great value in downtown Guiyang. Bed linens and floors were spotless every day. Air conditioning worked great. There was a very small amount of scum in the shower but not nearly enough to fret over (I have yet to find a 100% flawlessly clean shower in a budget hotel in China). Wifi was reasonably consistent. 

I speak some Chinese so I didn't have much of a problem at reception. Their printer wasn't working briefly, and I had difficulty understanding that in Chinese, so the staff member at reception went back and got another staff member (possibly the manager) who spoke some English to communicate this to me. I wouldn't necessarily expect that person to be on hand, though, so some basic Chinese skills would probably be helpful in order to stay here. 

This hotel is literally down the street from one of the best "authentic" restaurants in Guiyang, which is written up in Lonely Planet. Find the church (just down the street from the hotel), and then go down the alley across the street from the church. The restaurant is fairly large, with red lanterns in front of it - you can't miss it. You'll need to speak some Chinese to order. We ate there both nights during our stay.

This area of Guiyang was bustling at night (though we heard no street noise from the room) and we had fun exploring this Chinese city that is very much off the Western traveler radar. There aren't many "sites" in Guiyang, although the park and temple are interesting for an afternoon, but the real value of Guiyang is that you get to experience a slice of "real Chinese life" in a relatively small city. This hotel is a good choice if you'd like to experience a bit of Guiyang, or if you're using Guiyang as a transit point and need a place to rest your head for a night.
