While Popok Vel may not have as much charm as some of the (much) more expensive guesthouses closer to the river, this Chinese style hotel is clean, convenient and very affordable. The market is just around the corner and the area where most restaurants and coffee shops can be found is a ten to fifteen minute stroll away.

While there is nothing really to complain about (the bathroom has no ventilation - that's all that comes to mind), the main selling point is price. The walk-in rate of $7 a night for a clean, spacious twin/double with ensuite and fan (friends booked via Agoda and paid $11 per night) makes Popok Vel a good reason to stay longer in Kampot than planned. Kampot is, after all, a very pleasant little town.

Excellent value

I wake up with some kind of small animals biting me, they were ALL over me and my bed, and the only thing the guy who worked there said afterwards is that got angry with me for not telling him last night, because he knows how to handle this problem, but they were hidding during the day. Seriously end up leaving in the middle of the night, just couldnt stand the though of being in that guesthouse
