Once you have tried staying in different pousadas, which is the typical accommodation for most visitors on Ilha Grande, you will realize that Cavalo Marinho is not bed at all. It is family driven, the staff is very attentive and will help in any way they can (I had to print, sign and scan a document urgently while I was there and they helped me with access to their little office and the works).

Breakfast is simple, but when you get your share of fresh bread, fresh fruits, home-made cake and coffee, you are good to go. Have tried worse in Stockholm and London.

The rooms are indeed very simple, again normal for Ilha Grande standards. I did not recall any problems with water or air conditioning, but we had two rooms in the ground floor and one night a roach was sightseeing on the terrace right in front of our room doors and next day I actually had an indoors roach experience. We got assistance from the hotel staff on both occasions, but it is really something that can spoil your day (until you reach your programmed beach destination, then all is forgotten).

It is a tropical island, so being completely bug-free is probably a utopia. Watch for the falling coconuts though, these are the ones that can kill you :-)

Conveniently close to the shops, harbour, supermarket and restaurants. True that you will only be able to access the internet if you seat in the common room. On the other hand, it is totally free of charge.

Price is fair, breakfast is fine, location is priviledge, staff is OK, but I thought the rooms were not clean...besides that, I found a roach in my bedroom and that surely compromised the whole experience (LOL)...

The thing is that in a place like Ilha Grande, you won't be in your room anyways when there is just so much beauty outside...For the more adventurous, camping is a good call...

OK when all you need is a place to crash at night

Our double room on the second floor was very simple, with a double bed, two side tables, a coat rack, a private bathroom, and a refrigerator.  Since the room had no chairs, we only used it for sleeping and showering. The coat rack was nice for drying things though.

The shower in our room was very high flow, and had warm water. The mattress, on the other hand, was uncomfortable. Both of us sank into parts of the mattress, and it was hard to escape.

The grounds of the hotel seemed to be in the middle of some landscaping work.  It seemed that the owners live onsite in an apartment attached to the reception.

The breakfast/common patio area was right near the wireless router and actually ended up being a nice place to relax. I got a few bug bites though, that were likely from sitting on this patio at night. The wireless was reliably up, but not very fast.

When we booked, our room was supposed to have a hammock - but in reality there were only four or five hammocks strung outside the first floor rooms. Although these hammocks were likely for all guests, it felt awkward to use a hammock directly outside someones room.

An included breakfast was served daily from 8am to 10am. It was large and nicely presented, with four types of fruits, two breads, cake, meat, cheese, coffee, milk, and two juices.

Although when we booked the booking conditions on Booking.com claimed that we would be charged for 50% of the reservation upon booking, when we checked out the pousada claimed we had not been charged and charged us for the entire booking.  Upon returning home, we found that indeed we had not initially been charged upon booking - but they should change their booking conditions if they are not going to follow them.

I stayed there with my boyfriend for 3 days, the facilities are good but the staff is horrible; they were far from polite, and someone there stole my phone number and started texting me and my boyfriend, they way they handle personal information is very concerning specially since they also had our credit card numbers. It is a cheap place and cheap service is what you get.
