247 reviewsI adored Solar Maria Carolina, which is like its own little oasis. The pool and common areas are beautiful, and the perfect place to relax after a long day. Maria Carolina and Willem are gracious hosts. We arrived our first evening, six of us, and were the only ones staying there. Willem made an outstanding dinner (it was one of my friend's 55th birthday), highlights included the best pork dish I have ever eaten (I am not exaggerating) with local okra and I believe pumpkin (see pic), soup made of some green we couldn't figure out the translation for and I didn't recognize but was superb, and an orange cake that was truly out of this world (also see pic). The individual cabins were cozy and well appointed, though we spent little time there other than to sleep. The grounds are exceedingly well-cared for (plus, who doesn't like goats??!). A note, if you are the sort of person who doesn't cotton to an occasional farm sound - a rooster crowing and the like - this place might not be for you. But if you have any appreciation for country life, a delicious meal, a nice well-crated local beer and swim at the end of a warm day exploring what Inhotim has to offer, on a boutique farm that practices local sustainable, ethical agriculture, then you will be perfectly content at Solar Maria Carolina! (No kids with us, but kid-friendly too!)
