I rarely find a B&B so memorable, but Michel brought the Guesthouse Begijnhof to life. First off is the excellent location for university business -- literally across the street from the Beguinage entrance, where KU Leuven runs conferences. Next was the lovely garden and quiet rooms. The rooms were quite plain -- don't expect a lot of frou-frou. But that somehow seems in keeping with a 400 year old building. The Erasmus Room bed was comfortable and the bathroom was luxurious. Michel left snacks and tea around in the common area. The breakfast was gourmet-level, including home made breads, eggs cooked to order, beautiful fruit, and other lovely details. Merci, Michel, pour un séjour mémorable!!

I would give Michel six stars if I could

My husband and I stayed at the guesthouse for seven nights in May. We only wish we could have stayed longer. Michel is a kind and generous host. He cultivates an atmosphere of peace, which made for a deeply relaxing and enjoyable visit to Leuven. 

Michel has lovingly renovated the original 17th century house, and the location couldn't be better - on a quiet street a short walk from the center of Leuven. Our room overlooked the main gate to the Begijnhof across the street. It was pleasant to sit by the window and watch the bicycles and pedestrians go by. We also spent time in the back garden, which is beautifully tended and has several seating areas in the sun and in the shade. Over the week we got to know Luna and Soleil, the hens who live in the backyard. 

We had one of the smaller rooms in the guesthouse, but it was ample for the two of us, with a great shower and extremely comfortable mattress. Michel keeps the house spotlessly clean. He uses unscented cleaning products, so the air in the house is fresh and did not bother my sensitive nose. We booked directly through the guesthouse website rather than going through a booking site, and the process was straightforward and convenient.  

Breakfasts were delicious, with homemade bread and preserves (and eggs laid by the resident hens), as well as fresh fruits and vegetables, yogurts, meats, and local cheeses. 

The Guesthouse Begijnhof is a truly special place, combining all the best aspects of staying in a fine hotel and an intimate B&B. We hope to return again soon.

Exceptional!

We booked the meeting room at Guesthouse Begijnhof for an afternoon & evening team building activity, and we could not have chosen a better place: the calm atmosphere proved to be the perfect setting for our activity, the hosts were super kind and supper was simple (as requested) but very tasteful. The homemade soup alone is worth the trip. 

Be sure to check out the garden if you can, it's an oasis of silence in the otherwise pretty busy town of Leuven. 

If you're looking for a different experience than your regular business meeting room, I would definitely recommend checking out the Guesthouse Begijnhof!

Excellent meeting room

I have to agree with the other reviewers. This B&B is wonderful: charming, clean and quiet (except for the bicycles that run past the house and the chiming bells of the church across the street). I had a room overlooking the Begijnhof and it felt like travelling back in time!
The room was beautifully furnished, with a modern bathroom and a spacious shower.
Breakfast was prepared with much love and attention to detail. Fresh fruit and freshly pressed fruit juice everyday, yogurt, delicious cheeses, fresh bread, danish pastries and and always something new to try.
What makes this B&B special is the host: he was very friendly, attentive, helpful if you asked for information, but never intrusive.
Many single travelers staying there, so you don't feel out of place if you are alone. But you need to be able to climb a flight of stairs.

Small and beautiful

I stayed here for 2 nights while attending a course at the University. The B&B is perfectly located across the street from the beguinage but still an easy walk into the center. I stayed in the Erasmus room on the top floor facing the garden -- definitely the best room, quiet, with a good shower, a small seating area and a really comfortable bed (the only thing that was missing for me was a coffee machine or teapot in the room). The breakfast was perfect -- fresh fruit, bread, granola, yogurts, cheese, eggs... And the owner was very accommodating, giving me good recommedations for restaurants and things to see, and going out of his way to try and solve the internet problems. Staying there was a highlight of my visit to Leuven, and I would definitely stay there again!
