The Hayloft

Came to Hobart with my partner for a holiday. The convenience of sorting out access was seamless. Internet was very fast and had no limit on the number of devices used. Free bottle of bubbly on arrival too. 

The caretaker cleaned our apartment and allowed us to check in a little extra early as we had an early flight to Hobart.

The decor was modern but in keeping with it's heritage. Very clever use of this space. Sound was not issue and we slept very well despite being right above a busy restaurant. 

The bed was very comfortable and the we made good use of the Nespresso coffee machine. There was also an Apple TV with a Bose surround sound system with a large LCD TV. The technology was there but blended in with the decor very well and was unobtrusive. 

Lovely bath tub which came with some lovely bath salts. Would definitely come again. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Perfect location and comfortably stylish 

"The Hayloft" apartment - one of several at 100 Elizabeth St.
Consider the Pros & Cons of staying here.  
This is a basically good apartment managed by absentee owners’ staff from 1½ hours drive away who one deals with by phone.  Whilst the owners don’t exhibit fine control of the quality details, the willing staff do try to resolve hassles quickly & capably – & difficulties did arise for us.  The bottom line is that, if the owners lived in the premises for a while to work out what’s missing & what needs polishing, it’d be valuable at keeping the property up to the standard they aspire.

PROS
Generally well furnished & aesthetically pleasant for up to 2 people (but see Cons)
A capably fitted out kitchen
Good bedside lights that allow you read in bed!  So rare
Internet speed of around 20Mb/sec – creditably fast, & as quick as most people get at home
Geographically well located for restaurants, sight-seeing, the wharf to MONA & the tourist info office (both near each other, a 10 minutes stroll away)
Helpful Reception people a phone call away

CONS
No full length mirror
No shower cap or tissues
No price list for bar fridge contents 
2 coat hangers per person for hanging clothes – 6 per person would be good.
Insufficient coffee capsules for the coffee machine
Hot water wasn’t available some days
No tourist maps
Intriguing scratching noises in the ceiling, bumping sounds in the walls, talking & loud music & other noises from the downstairs restaurant between 9am & 1pm (this will be a category killer for anyone who’s noise-sensitive)

MIXED PROS & CONS
Heated, but not air conditioned
There’s no-one on-site to ask about things – but the trade-off is you’re in more independent, apartment-style residing instead of being in a hotel
A gratis bottle of bubbly, some tasty Tasmanian apples & some chocolates await you on arrival – but there was no written advice about whether these were complimentary or billable :)

Pros & Cons of “The Hayloft”

I took my partner here for an evening of luxury & relaxation to celebrate our anniversary. Although it’s a quaint space, we found that the accommodation was overcharged for what was provided. For luxury accommodation that cost over $300 per night, there were no touches or welcome items to make you feel at home, & the main features of the accommodation (excluding the bed) lacked consideration.

Shower/Bath Tub: The shower & bath aren’t designed for tall people (my partner being 6’2” couldn’t fit under the shower head). The biggest attraction of the accommodation is the bath tub, but if you’re planning on having a bath with your partner (& both over 5’6”) you most likely won’t be comfortable! Water pressure also kept dropping (whilst running the bath we thought a few times that we’d have to skip as the pressure kept dropping to a trickle).

Noise: For those who are noise sensitive, I'd suggest you pass. As the accommodation is located directly above a busy restaurant, we could hear music, and kitchen staff from below until late (roughly 11:30pm) and early again in the morning (roughly 7:30am onwards). There is also a building fan located outside the front door, across the courtyard, which could be heard going all day & night.

Cleanliness: Various items e.g. used coffee pods, half empty bubble bath bottles were discovered in the accommodation upon our arrival.

Internet: Not unlimited. If you’re planning on streaming a movie or tv show, you’ll be charged extra fees if usage is over a certain amount.

Bed: Very comfortable & had a range of pillows (for those who prefer a choice of thick or thin pillows).
