We stayed two nights at Hostel Boulevard Sarandi. 

Let me break this down into good and not so good. 

Good -
- Excellent, safe location ( I completely disagree with the review that says this part of town was unsafe)
- One of the cheapest prices in the old city
- Incredible old building
- Large spacious dorms
- Cool common area
- Good wifi
- Breakfast included (two pieces of sugary pastry but hey its free)

The NOT so good -

This place has SOOO much potential it has everything a good hostel needs. Butttt…….  

- Bathroom is musty no ventilation at all, I opted to not use the shower. 
- The toilet paper garbage was often overflowing and quiet disgusting yet no one seemed to empty it (adding to the gross smell)
- The staff  and some other long term residents live at the hostel but the vibe from them is uninterested.I felt more like I was a guest at a strangers house then in a hostel. 
- Its freezing inside and there is no heating. ( We used extra blankets) 

Hopefully management makes a few small changes then this hostel would be awesome. But when other hostels are only a $1 or so more I'd stay elsewhere if i travelled Montevideo again. See my other Montevideo review.

So much potential!

The area in which this is located is run down, and rife with junkies and poorly lit at night. The male employees were great, however the one female employee needs an attitude adjustment. Boring as all get out. The kitchen was small and gross, as were the bathroom and showers. Stay in a different part of the city.

If you like staying in a ghost town, this is the place for you!!

Nice and helpful staff, but... 

If you are a walk-in guest you won`t have breakfast!!! Can you believe that?? Yes!! When i wanted my breakfast the receptionist told me as I hadn`t made a reservation on Hostelworld or any other of those booking systems... THERE WAS NOT BREAKFAST FOR ME! And I paid the same price by cash as any other guest with a bloody credit card.

After that problem , I wanted to check out ( I had already  paid 2 nights) and they didn`t want to give my money back. I couldn`t believe it. GOD! I wanted to cry and burn that place! Anyway I had had a very stressful day because of a personal problem, so then I just calmed down finally decided to stay the second night. 
I remember the kitchen was so dirty and messy. Fortunately i didn`t get ill after cooking there.

In my room, there were other 2 girls who lived there ( They were not tourists) They were nice and i didn`t have any problem with them though they had all the lockers busy with their stuff.

Not that terrible after all, but if i go back to Montevideo...I WILL  STAY in other hostel for sure!

My trip was perfect until i stepped on  this hostel

All I have to say is.... it is not a hostel... it is a student house with very spoilt students... You will feel like you are in someone elses home... Very dirty person!!!! The students hung in the kitchen and common area with a disrespect, that i am sure they don't do the same at home... JUST DON'T STAY!!!!
