Thoroughly enjoyed the B&B. Room (Tradewinds) was clean and very well appointed. The view from the lanai couldn't be beat! Veronica's breakfasts were always delicious and fresh. They made sure we had everything we needed for a boat trip so we didn't have to pack things like beach towels, which was appreciated. My only minor comment is the bathroom could use a little facelift/TLC. Also note: the bed was very, very soft (one of those plush foam beds) so if you require a firmer mattress just be advised (we do not but just a comment in case that's a concern for you).

Highly recommend this B&B

We absolutely loved staying here! Marjorie's has been one of the most accommodating BnBs that we have ever stayed in. If you could think of it, they most likely had it! The location is tucked back into a neighborhood away from the town and so quietly serene. We loved to relax on the lanai and hear the birds chirp through the afternoon. There is a ton of items you can borrow / have from the house, from beach chairs to food to medicine. Almost anything you can think of was there at your disposal. The breakfasts were very accommodating to all dietary styles and everything our host made was delicious. You get amazing views from the breakfast lanai and it's a great way to start your day. The drive way was definitely a challenge and they let us know it might be, but just take it slow and you'll be fine. (super steep with multiple car parked there and not very much side room to maneuver) We loved staying here and highly recommend it.

Lovely Quiet BnB with Great Host

We had visited Kauai about 25 years ago and loved it. This year, it wasn’t until after I made our plane reservations and started looking for a place to stay that I realized how much price inflation there had been on a small island with limited choices.

The places to stay in the $150-to-$300 a night range all had middling-to-poor Trip Advisor reviews. We also refused to stay in a condo, AirBnB, or VRBO because those kinds of units reduce affordable housing for locals. (While we were in Hawaii, we read that Maui is on the path to phasing out by 2026 some 7,000 short-term rental units and converting them into long-term units to provide desperately needed housing for locals.)

The major hotels were way beyond our budget once you included the rip-off “resort fees” and the need to buy breakfasts.

That led us to Marjorie’s, a true, owner-occupied B&B. We paid more than I had ever paid for a room in my life—$395 a night plus tax, but with a 5% discount because we didn’t pay with a credit card. But full breakfasts were included, free parking, and free use of all sorts of equipment including beach chairs, ice coolers, reef walks, and the laundry (but check with the innkeeper first for timing). 

They don’t serve the full breakfast on Sundays, but there are snacks, and basic fixings in a common room. (You can take the food back to your own room or with you on your travels.)

Although I talked with one of the owners on the phone in making my reservations, they were away during our 10-day stay. In their place as acting innkeeper was Veronika, a German-born California who runs the inn if the owners are absent. She was wonderful and bent over backwards to meet our needs. If she didn’t know an answer to our questions, she asked a local. In fact, it says something about the owners’ high ethics and collegiality that they invite one of their cleaners and a couple of neighbors to share breakfast with guests once a week. 

If you’re looking for a hermetically sealed place to stay, you’d be better off paying thousands of dollars for the Grand Hyatt. Marjorie’s is inland, surrounded by lush vegetation on a hillside—and yes, there are geckos outside (although we wouldn’t have minded if they were inside, since they eat nasty critters). If you leave a crumb on the window sill, ants will find it. (Aside: When we toured one of the nonprofit gardens, we saw some leaves in a tree that had been eaten. Someone asked what happened to the leaves. The guide said, “We have bugs.”)

Our room windows had excellent screens, and we kept the windows open all the time. The ceiling fans kept us cool. Not once did we turn on the air conditioner.

Although county regulations prohibit cooking in B&B rooms, we made good use of the small refrigerator and the assortment of dishes, plates, and silverware.

The inn has a relationship with an activities coordinator, Robbie. It was easy to work with her to arrange a boat excursion. Innkeeper Veronika helped by coordinating with the coordinator, including payment.

I wondered what shape the bathroom would be in. Would it have mildew everywhere? No, the bathroom was just as clean as ours at home, although the ventilation wasn’t as good at times.

Our room, the Sunset View, had a hot tub, whose deck served as our lanai. We only used it twice (and yes, we followed the urgent instructions to wash off our sunscreen before using it). Evgery day, we sat on the deck chairs looking at the view.

We also swam in the pool outside once, but we concluded that that we can swim in pools at home. This was Hawaii, and Hawaii has beaches. 

(For gentle swimming, I recommend Salt Pond Beach just past Hanapepe, about 8 miles from the inn. Veronika likes Sheraton Beach which has slightly rougher waves and is much busier, but just 6 miles from the inn. Interestingly, Sheraton Beach is actually Poipu Beach, which is different from Poipu Beach Park at Brenneckes Beach. Use your GPS to get to the right place.)

Marjorie’s is a wonderful inn, and we’d stay there again in a flash. However, some improvements would make a terrific place even better:

Our room needs a minor update. Veronika had to show us how to turn on the hot water tap in the kitchen sink, because the faucet was sticking. Really sticking.

The table in the room really belongs in a college dorm: It’s round glass atop a center cylinder that not only is too high for the chairs, but has no room for legs. The table chairs were way too big for the space available (and not very comfortable), so Veronika let us swap out different chairs. Either way, we needed to sit on pillows so wouldn’t be neck-level as we ate. (And we’re both tall people.)

Our trash was removed every day, and we could get new towels any time we left the old ones on the floor. 

The bed is high off the floor. We had no problem with it, but less-mobile people might need a foot stool to get into bed.

Finally, the instructions to the inn need updating. (We left some suggestions with the innkeeper.) 

Your GPS can get you to Halaima Road, if you make sure you add the town, Lawai. Its street sign is difficult to see, especially at night during the rain (when we arrived), and the instructions are oriented toward daylight landmarks. When you get the instructions, I recommend copying and pasting them into Word and then changing the case from ALL CAPITAL LETTERS into sentence style for easier reading. (There’s a reason books and newspapers and magazines aren’t written in all caps.) 

You’ll need the instructions once you’re on Halaima Road. You might also go to Google Maps street view to see the adjacent driveways of which you need to take the one furthest away (the most southern). Street views has a great image, and you’ll instantly understand what you’re supposed to do.

These are nits. We were happy with our stay, the personalized service, the food, the room—well, nearly everything.

Good experience — We have tips and suggestions

Simply amazing! We enjoyed 2 of the 3 rooms at the inn during 2 separate 4 night stays.    Veronica, our host was fantastic. She made fabulous breakfasts each morning and kept the shared fridge and pantries well-stocked for      hikes, beach outings and late night snacks. The views from the lanais are spectacular and make a great setting for sunset cocktails or whatever.  They provide all the gear you'd need for anything.  The driveway is a bit steep but manageable and overall well worth it. We would definitely return.

Simply amazing.

We selected Marjorie's Inn based on the positive Tripadvisor reviews and we were not disappointed. Located in a tranquil position about 30 minutes from the airport and 10 minutes from the beach, the Inn provides a stunning view over the Lawai valley. 
Alexis and Mike are great hosts; they gave us a very warm welcome and provided excellent advice as regards what to see and where to eat. Moreover, Alexis is a great cook and provided a sumptuous breakfast each morning made using fresh, local produce. In addition to home-made pastries and bread, she provided a delicious entrée each day. Alexis also encouraged us to take food for later in the day either from the breakfast area or the well stocked fridge located in the basement. 
Our room was spacious and had a long, wide balcony over-looking the valley. We sat there in the evenings as the sun set and on clear nights were treated to a wonderful array of stars.
If you want a traditional B&B in Kauai with great hosts, delicious food and located in a wonderful setting, then you could do no better than Marjorie's Inn.

Great location, delicious breakfasts and fantastic hosts

Amazing views, clean rooms, comfy bed and gourmet breakfasts, what more could you ask for? Jim and Jenn were welcoming, helpful guest hosts for our visit. It was a perfect base for all our Kauai excursions and close to everything! Overall a great experience, highly recommend for anyone looking for a unique stay!

Marjorie's Kauai Inn is a hidden gem. Nestled on the beautiful island of Kauai, it's a charming and peaceful retreat just minutes away from pristine beaches, making it an ideal oasis for travelers seeking a tranquil, private getaway. I live on Maui and needed to take a break for the volunteer work I was doing with the Maui fires and this trip recharged me! 

The inn's gracious hospitality and thoughtful attention to detail are everywhere you look. When I stepped outside onto my room's spacious Lanai, was greeted by the sight of a serene saltwater pool and lounge area at the end of a romantic wooden stairwell, surrounded by swaying palm trees and an authentic Bali Hut, to sit and watch the sunset. I could relax and unwind while watching many different species of birds that call this area home. I also took advantage of "Night Swimming & Stargazing" as on a clear night you can see every star in the sky. 

Inside the comfortable and tastefully appointed rooms, I found everything I needed to truly relax.

Waking to the smell of the Inn’s legendary breakfast was a pleasant morning experience.  Each morning there are other guests engaged in fascinating "talk story" sessions with fellow world travelers. The innkeepers will happily share tips, stories, and insights about Kauai's rich history and vibrant culture. They also have a friend that is the "local activity director" who can fill you in on all the new and exciting things happening on island. 

The inn's central location allows guests to make the most of their time exploring the island's breathtaking natural wonders. The innkeepers are avid hikers and can suggest any worthwhile outdoor activity you might want to engage in. 

The inn's complimentary concierge services made it stressfree to plan exciting activities and tours. From thrilling door's off helicopter tours to serene hikes along the Napali Coast, there is an abundance of adventures waiting to be discovered.

At Marjorie's Kauai Inn, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere is obviously a top priority.  All the guests I met seemed to be treated like a cherished member of the Ohana, ensuring a memorable and personalized stay.

Maui Seaside: Experience what ALOHA is all about!

My husband and I were there for a week in August and it far exceeded our expectations. The hosts were so helpful with suggestions and the gourmet breakfasts were all homemade to perfection. The place is at a beautiful location overlooking a lush, green valley.  The lanai was spacious and a great place to relax.  

Amazing place in Paradise

This is the most magical, wonderful place to stay on ANY of the Hawaiian islands. My husband and I spent our weekend getaway to Kauai at Marjorie’s and Veronica was a WONDERFUL host. The host and owners went above and beyond to ensure we knew where we were going and Veronica was there with open arms and a huge smile to greet us for a complimentary early check in upon arrival. The garage is willed with everything you could ever need- beach chairs, extra sun screen, coolers, and unlimited snacks! Breakfast was also INCREDIBLE! Veronica woke us with a delicious home cooked meal with baked goods, avocado toast, fruit salad, and other delicacies each morning of our stay. The view is UNMATCHED! It is gorgeous. Marjorie’s was definitely the highlight of our trip. We will be back!

A vacation oasis

My Wife and I  had a wonderful 4 days at Marjorie's Kauai Inn. The property was beautiful and the breakfast was delicious. It was our host Veronika that made our stay outstanding. Her enthusiasm from Checkin to checkout was joyous. Her attention to detail was flawless and her knowledge of Kauai was superb. Plus she was fun to chat with! As Innkeepers ourselves, she really made our stay at this beautiful inn special.
