Lovely, friendly, welcoming staff. Room better than expected from a traditional Lakeland property, bathroom very nice,  Cosy, well stocked bar, amazing breakfast. Very generous portions. Try the porridge, you won’t regret it.

Topped off with ample parking,

A great, friendly base for a Lakeland visit.

There are three pubs/hotels in the village centre and all are good for a beer. The Sun is different in that it is the only one with a good, ordinary public bar and I would guess that this would be the main “local” watering hole.

It was certainly nice to perch at the bar and enjoy a couple of beers, and the service was welcoming and very friendly.

Review as a pub only.

Staff were very welcoming and looked after me perfectly. Food was great with a fabulous breakfast each morning. They always made sure I had a table for evening meals as it was extremely busy. Excellent music on New Year's eve.
Many local walks without taking the car.
Would certainly recommend, and will be returning.

Everything you could wish for

Booked a 1 night stay with 2 mates (3rooms) and everything was perfect from booking to checking out. 
Rooms good value for money, clean and comfortable with everything we needed. 
Parking was plentiful and we felt safe leaving our bikes outside. 
The food was perfect, well presented and huge portions with a great choice. 
Breakfast ticked all the boxes and had wide choice to choose from. 
Staff were perfect, very helpful, good humour and happy to make us feel welcomed and our custom valued. 
Honestly just couldn’t fault this place and will 100% return if only to see the stunningly beautiful girl on reception. 
If travelling and visiting around PooleyBridge then a visit here must be on the list.

Just perfect

Without a doubt one of the worst places I ever stayed at anywhere in the world. The room we were allocated a twin is tiny - in most places it would be called an economy TWIN but we were charged the full amount. 

There is barely enough room to move between beds. Forget about bringing a suitcase, there is barely enough room to place a rucksack. The window is tiny and even though it is 10 degrees outside, there is no air in the room it is incredibly hot and airless. The mattress must be at least 30 years old very soft and uncomfortable. Walls are paper thin and when guests next door switched on their TV at 6.30 am we could hear it very clearly in our room. I will write a separate review regarding a terrible experience in their dark, tiny and uninviting restaurant/pub. Sun Inn are one of the cheapest places to stay in Pooley, even so they are far from cheap.

You can't have a proper shower as the shower tray gets completely flooded with water after about 30 seconds. 

To make matters worse, the owner confronted me and my son as we were leaving the Sun Inn about my honest review. Instead of apologising she attacked me for leaving a negative review. She also said that as a 16th century hotel they can't have proper plumbing installed. This of course is not true (it is not even a 16th century inn). Having stayed in many old building before in many countries, I have never seen a plumbing problem like that. 

In summary: dated furniture, tiny and airless room, uncomfortable beds, poor value for money and aggressive owner - is there any reason to stay here? We will definitely not be back.

Went  to the Sun Inn tonight as walk-in for food and appreciated that they could fit us in as they had a large party no show. My partner ordered the scampi which was fine, and I ordered the fish pie as it was described as containing various fish plus prawns. I love prawns so that swayed it for me but on eating it, it was nice enough but there were no prawns to be found which was very disappointing when I was paying £16.95. I mentioned it to the waitress and she apologised but that was it. No come back with an explanation from the chef as to why. So I paid and left disappointed. So just be wary that meals here may not be as described.

A beautiful old inn that we remembered from a visit a long time ago.
Good pub food and lovely old surroundings !
Not very busy at this lunchtime which was fine but the barman was not very visible and seemed to be forever nipping away, which was still fine but odd !
Food was quickly served and very tasty, other staff more attentive if needed 😂
Would definitely return and check out the other parts of the inn !

Best place to stay in Pooley Bridge!

Just got back from another great weekend in Pooley Bridge,stayed again at the Sun Inn absolute love it great rooms to stay in lovely traditional pub with great food,booze and amazing staff they were all great with my son who has special needs.Only downside is we had to come home....definitely be back there soon its well worth a visit to the Sun... 

Happy Days

Not freshly battered which means frozen but fresh. Shows the high standards set here . Also had the lamb shank and fish pie, both clearly prepared in house.  The food is lovely.Draught beer from Jennings is superb. As we live nearby  we wouldn’t ordinarily stay here but events meant we stayed Friday night. Room clean and comfortable. Couldn’t ask for more tbh
