Disappointing. Poor food, poor choice, un inspired staff. Poorly trained? 
What has happened to this lovely pub in the last year?! Very uninspiring menu, 
Nachos…. 2 blobs of sour cream and some guacamole. No salsa or jalapeños. 
Tempura prawns served very oddly on a bed of peas with chopped up chilli on them. The special board offered 2 fish dishes neither were available, and they’d sold out of the Lobster. 
This once great pub needs to go back to basics. Good wholesome pub food, prepared with care. Simple but effective. Fish and chips, Scampi, steaks, burgers, pies…. But of course on the beach in Cornwall - Seafood should be fresh and second to none. 

Disappointing

I have visited this pub for many years but not since the refurb. Very disappointing x2 nachos £20 and processed cheese spread like an oil slick. £6.50 a pint no wonder no locals in either. Staff looked fed up and unmotivated. The main lady didn't help talking about rentokill visiting when I was in the restaurant. Go to the blue bar where you will be welcomed. Wont be back and I guess by next winter it will be closed...

Disappointing and really just not worth it

Nice looking beachside pub.

Food was expensive, £16 for veggie burger and £6.50 a pint, but it's location location location I guess.

Staff seemed a bit clueless (but nice). 
Food was very average, over cooked fries, basic burger fillings etc.

We had a reservation but after 30 mins ordered at the bar. It wasn't busy.

We are here for a week but won't be coming back. 2 out of 5 for this place is possibly generous.

Could be run a lot better imo.

Second time we’ve visited the Unicorn at Porthtowan. Excellent service and fabulous freshly cooked food both times. We’ll definitely come here again even though it’s not local to us. Very dog friendly and a lovely relaxed atmosphere to enjoy the view. Would thoroughly recommend!

Fabulous food, relaxed atmosphere

I recently dined at this restaurant whilst on holiday and while the service upon arrival was prompt, the wait time for our food was quite lengthy, taking around 45-60 minutes. Although the food was good, I found the pricing to be a bit on the high side and not quite worth the value. To add to this, the restaurant attempted to add a substantial service charge for what I would consider average service.

Overall, my experience at this restaurant was mixed. While the food was decent and the service was just adequate, I was disappointed with the wait time for the food and the pricing. I would recommend exploring other dining options in the area if you're looking for a better value and exceptional service.

Meal was decent, waitresses were polite, lovely location. The only thing that left a bad taste was the discretionary tip of 12.5% that was automatically added to the bill. Yes I was told I could change it, but you kind of feel awkward to ask for it to be removed. I would have happily tipped the waitresses, but didn’t appreciate it being added in this way. Especially given most of our order was drinks, I wouldn’t expect to pay 12.5% paying for drinks at the bar.

Watch out for service charge

Beautiful food, beautiful service from the lovely Elle and her manager, whom were approachable and diplomatic when one of our party wanted to give feedback on the food.

Lovely quality produce! Will definitely return upon our next adventure this way!

Beautiful local find

Went with great expectations but was soooo disappointed.
The food was very average and when we received the bill with drinks the price was as if we had dinner in the ritz so overpriced for very very average then we went down the road to the beach just as the kitchen staff were throwing bits of food waste and grease down the road drain DISGUSTING

We visited on a family holiday, with kids: Really super staff - ate very well and the place is in a wonderful location. Very friendly and accommodating, and really enjoyed our meals! We would heartily recommend the place.

Fantastic

We went to The Unicorn for dinner and drinks and were not disappointed The staff were friendly and more than accommodating for ourselves and our dog. The food was nice and the bar selection was great. The menu was a tad pricy for what you were getting however would go again.
