We had room 11 & 12 

Room 11 has a small shower room with hand basin and toilet. Shower you can get in if extra slim. Hot water certain times of the day. Supplies tea coffee etc. but kettle to big to fill from sink. 
King size bed with a double quilt (15tog)  too small for 2 people, had to get the spare single quilt from room 12.
Half of the plug sockets not working either 
Room 12 is a twin room with bathroom. Lots better that room 11, but again most sockets not working. 

When you look out the emergency exit, which was next to our rooms there was a large ladder tied to it at top of steps and paint pots on bottom of steps

We also book breakfast with out stay, only to be told the if there are more than 8 people then he would cook it. 

Ansteys Lea is a really a Faulty towers hotel in all honesty

But the owner was a lovely person

I would definitely stay here again the owner was friendly, the rooms were decorated nicely, the room was clean and there was enough space to store all of our belongings.  The only things I would say were the room I was staying in was a little on the small side but nothing too bad.  A very minor inconvenience was that some of the channels on the television did not work or had static when you changed to them but this did not impact my stay at all it was just something I noticed.  All in all great stay and friendly owner.

This place to start with is neither a hotel or bed and breakfast as no breakfast is available and there is no bar! It is basically room only other than for larger groups that stay according to the owner who can apparently arrange to have breakfast.
Room was a good size and bed was comfortable , some mould in shower and could have been cleaner in room. Two dodgy steps in the corner of the room up to the ensuite with metal edged sharp corners.
 A bit too far off the beaten track for me but good for a quiet stay.

Basic

Stayed here for 4 nights with our friends. 2 double rooms at a cost of £50 per couple per night. This is extremely reasonable in comparison to other hotels in this location. 
Rooms were perfectly adequate for what we needed. Slept very well with no disturbances. 
Location is brilliant with many walks close to the hotel. 
The host was brilliant, asked him to print something off for us and he was more than happy to. 
All in all fantastic value and a great stay.

Great stay.

I booked to stay at this hotel after reading reviews saying it was very clean etc. I booked the stay on 03/08 through booking.com for 2 days starting from the 09/08 for myself and my 11 year old daughter. On the 06/08 i was sent a message from the hotel asking what time I was going to be checking in. I advised them of the rough times as I was travelling from Birmingham. Upon arrival on the 09/08 and after a 3.5 hour drive I arrived at the hotel and met at the door by the owner who before anything told me that he had made a mistake and double booked me and that he had booked myself and my daughter into a hotel down the road for the night and I was to return the next night to stay there.
 
I wasn’t happy about this but accepted it and went to the hotel which was called the Burlington Inn. I arrived and checked in and when I got into the room it was disgusting! I took pictures of all of everything and even though I was angry I couldn’t afford to spend time going from hotel to hotel as we were only there for 2 days and I needed to spend time with my daughter. I did try and call the Anstey Lea hotel all day but no answer until the evening time around 1900 hours. I adv the owner of what happened and he could wait to get me off the phone.  But before this I asked him when he became aware that he had double booked me, he advised me that it was the Friday previous which was the 06/08, the day he sent me a message to ask my arrival time. I advised him we will talk about it tomorrow when I return.
 
Upon closer inspection I seen that there was hairs on the chair in the room, the bed were the worst ive ever slept on, there were bogies on wall in the bathroom and after that I chose not to shower because of how filthy the place was and also because there was no stand up shower, just a shower head attached to the hot and cold tap. I couldn’t sleep that night and managed to get 5 hours at a push. I returned to the hotel the next morning feeling quite emotional and felt fobbed off. Again I was greeted by the owner who is the most infuriating person I have ever met, he handed me another piece of paper with his email address on and told me to send him the pictures I took so he can complain to the Burlington Hotel. After explaining everything and showing him the disgusting pictures he just stood leant against the doorway with his hand in his pocket and advised that he did what booking.com terms advise him which is too book another hotel of a similar standard. I advised him that he knew 4 days prior and why didn’t he let me know. He kept repeating booking.com’s terms.
 
I advised him that if I had know sooner I could have gone anywhere and that Torquay was just 1 of many places! Again he repeated himself! He eventually took some ownership and said it was a mistake and that he will in future let people know which I do not believe! Oh and before taking ownership he also tried to lie and say that it was a mistake when he told me he knew 4 days in advance. I got quite upset at this and he soon backtracked and said it was 4 days again. I Asked him if he done this before and he said “yes, just once” which I really don’t believe. He seems well versed in booking.com’s terms and conditions.  I asked him what he was going to do to rectify this and all he said is he will try and get me the money back from the Burlington. I explained that the Burlington is his problem and my problem is with him. He asked what I wanted as a result of this and I advised him that the whole stay should be free due to what I had to deal with and the fact he did not think it appropriate to advise me 4 days prior of the mistake.
 
He adv me this isn’t happening and because of my attitude as I was getting quite heated at this point he no longer wanted me there and that he will not charge me if I left now. So after a 3.5 hour drive I got to spend 1.5 days there with my daughter. P.s he said that the hotel he booked for me cost more than his but he was basically trying to fill a room in his hotel for 1 night that he had spare. He is very unprofessional man who take no ownership of mistakes that he has made and tries to lie but isn’t clever enough to pull it off. I hope whoever reads this learns from my mistake.


Poor customer service 

Stayed for 5 nights here and had nothing to fault at all! Lovely host very polite and helpful rooms spotless and anything at request! Ample parking too,,, would recommend without hesitation only a stones throw from torquay and really easy to access with local shops well within walking distance

Lovely stay

Comfortable, clean bed and a decent shower in a great location. Local amenities are excellent and only a few minutes drive or bus to Torquay harbour. The proprietor is very friendly and most informative.

Good value

lovely clean room with all you need a very comfortable bed ,room only but tea / coffee in room free onsite parking with short walk to bus stop with regular service till 11.30 would definately stay again

Ansteys Lea is a small comfortable hotel in a great location, a 2 minute walk to Wellswood with shops, cafes and a pub !. Clean, basic facilities and friendly service, excellent value for money, will definitely stay there again.

Great value !

This is a small hotel just moments away from Wellswood an Ansteys Cove. Great value for money with lovely accommodation. Light and airy rooms and relatively quiet even though you are situated on the Babbacombe road. Hotelier is very friendly and will go the extra mile to make your stay a memorable one. Will definitely return.
